Principal Newsletter
Hello SKS families ~ Happy Spirit Shirt Day!
It is great to see all the fun happenings at Saint Kateri School ~ It has been nice to see families attending School Masses, children walking the hallway with new books from the Library, parents in classrooms helping teachers and Parent's Association organizing and sorting Save Around books. The simple joys of normalcy ~ at least we are on our way to normalcy.
We will have in-person Christmas Concerts this year and we could not be happier! In order to be able to follow our school guidelines in Church and welcome family members to attend, it was necessary to split our Christmas Concert into two different nights. We will share more details very soon as our Advent committee meets next week to plan all things Christmas.
Please SAVE the DATES:
- Monday, 12/20 (10:00am and 7:00pm) ~ Kindergarten-2nd grade
- Tuesday, 12/21 (10:00am and 7:00pm) ~ 3rd-5th grade
Next week we will have Half-Day Dismissal on Wednesday, November 10th. These monthly Half Days allow all of Diocesan schools the opportunity to meet together virtually as a grade level or as a specialty area. This is much needed support to our teachers and our students will benefit from the sharing of best practice between these teaching professionals.
A reminder that as we turn the calendar to November students are no longer able to wear shorts to school as part of their uniform. All K-5 students will need to wear pants from November 1st through May 1st. Thank you for your cooperation.
God bless you all ~

Trunk and Treat
We had a successful 2nd Annual Trunk and Treat this year ~ even as blustery weather loomed overhead! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our school and the scouts ~ Thank you to Philip Schroeder for organizing this community event ~ it takes a lot of work and planning but it was so appreciated. Such creativity with trunk decorating ~ a good time was had by all!
Volunteering in the school
We are continuing to open up volunteer opportunities in our school and ways for parents to attend Masses with our school community. We invited a limited number of guests to attend the Mass with the Bishop and it was limited to only members of the grades participating. We will do the same with the Masses going forward this year. They will need to wear their mask at all times, as this is considered a school event and we need to follow our school guidelines. Anytime we are participating in a school event, even if it is not in school (i.e., in the Church) ~ we need to follow our school guidelines ~ the ones shared at the beginning of the year.
Classroom volunteers will also be allowed back into school to help with support of instruction (i.e., running a center, working with a small group of students, preparing work for student projects, etc.) and Room Parents will be able to come in to help with the various activities teachers have communicated. (i.e., holiday celebrations, preparation for projects, etc.) Anyone helping in classrooms will need to wear their mask at all times ~ even if they are socially distanced. Volunteers will need to come to the Main Office, sign in and complete the COVID Daily Health Check questions.
As mandated by NYS, anyone working in a school must be vaccinated or submit to testing each week. This is not a NYS requirement for volunteers in the classroom. As we begin to allow volunteers into the building we will not require them to be vaccinated but they will be required to follow our 2021-2022 School Guidelines.
Volunteers will be required to:
- Sign in and complete the COVID Health Check form when entering the building. Please do not come to volunteer if you have ANY of the listed COVID questions.
- Wear a face mask at all times
- Socially distance
From the Main Office:
- There is no After Care on Half Day Dismissals
- K-5 students, please contact your Public School Department of Transportation to confirm busing for any Half Day Dismissals
