Principal's Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Clark
May 10, 2018
Dear Parents,
As St. Francis de Sales said, “Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with a perfect confidence.” Here are three simple ways we can honor Mary this Mother’s Day:
- Pray the Rosary. Take a few moments, either alone or with your family, to pray the Rosary. If it’s a nice day outside, go for a Rosary walk! If an entire Rosary seems overwhelming to you, consider praying just one decade.
- Bring Mary Flowers. During May (the month of Mary), it is customary to set up an extra-special space in your home to honor Our Lady. A Mary altar doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be simple but beautiful atop a fireplace mantle or bookshelf. If you don’t have a statue of Mary, a framed holy card and Rosary can adorn your altar. Get the kids involved by asking them to make little bouquets of flowers for the Blessed Mother. They will love doing this!
- Enjoy Dessert. What holiday is complete without a special treat? And the Catholic Church is very good about teaching us about the importance of fasting and feasting! While Mother’s Day might not be an official Marian feast day, she is the mother of all mothers, so let us celebrate her! And perhaps instead of “Happy Birthday,” we could sing a Marian hymn instead!
May God bless all of our mothers as we celebrate with them on Sunday. In the words of Saint Katharine Drexel, “O Holy Mother of God, behold your child! I am not worthy but Jesus gave me to you. I am a part of His legacy; teach me to be all that a child of Mary ought to be.”
God’s blessings,
Ms. Clark

Race for Education
We look forward to our Annual Race for Education Friday, May 18th. Donation dollars continue to come in. At this point, we have raised over $20,000 for our school. THANK YOU to our SKD families and friends for supporting this fundraiser!
Students may wear their gym uniforms with socks and sneakers on the day of the race. Sunscreen and reasonably sized water bottles are encouraged.
After-School Clubs
Our school has offered a variety of after-school clubs. Due to low enrollment and lack of interest, some of our clubs have stopped. Knowing the importance of after-school clubs and how they can ultimately build students' confidence and self-esteem, we would like to hear from you. Please complete the short survey to help us plan for the 2018-2019 school year's extracurricular activities.

We do not want you to lose your place. Knowing your intentions helps us to plan and budget for the next school year.

Financial Aid
Applications for students who will be enrolled in K-12 during the 2018-2019 school year will be available for parents. Applications for Archdiocesan schools, parish schools, and diocesan high schools can be accessed at www.blocs.org or by going directly to https://online.factsmgt.com/aid
Please know that no parent who sincerely desires a Catholic education for their child at Saint Katharine Drexel School will be denied registration because of true financial hardships. Each parish will address this concern on a case by case basis for their parishioners. Any additional financial aid scholarship, in addition to the parishes’ subsidy, will be predetermined, and awarded by the parish, prior to the start of the academic year. Families who believe they are eligible and in need of this aid are asked to contact their local parish office and request a financial aid packet which will include the request for all pertinent financial information.
