Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break filled with fun and relaxation! It is hard to believe that tomorrow will be Day 134 of school! This means that we have 47 more days of school (if you count tomorrow). Wow! This year is flying by!

On Career Day on Friday, we do want students to dress up according to what they would like to be when they grow up (or what they want to do now to change the world - just a little different perspective there). Please share this information with your students and parents. We will also have a 'concert' in the gym on Friday at lunch time from our very own local celebrity (and staff relative) - Andy Buckner! Students are invited to bring a blanket or towel for a 'picnic'. Please see the Google Doc from Jayme with the schedule.

Grades 3 and 4 lesson plans are due this week.

I will email out updated duty and lunch schedules. They are basically the same except the names of staff members have been updated.

Let's take a deep breath and hit the ground running! We have a lot to accomplish over the next 10 weeks! Coming up soon we have our Career Day, Data Discussions, Leadership Day, EOG Pep Rally, EOGs, Makeup Testing, RTA testing, Field Day, Transition Days/Meetings, End of the Year Ceremonies and then end of the year fun! We've got this! Remember that while this time of year is stressful and filled with hard work, it can also be fun and a great opportunity to further develop team relationships. Let's work together to make this the best 47 days ever!

Upcoming Data Discussions

We are doing our final data discussions a bit different this last time. This time, each grade level teacher will have a half day substitute on their designated day. We hope that this will give us time to discuss EVERY child and to make a plan for a major instructional push for proficiency and/or growth by the end of the year. Remember that EVERY child has to grow. While it is wonderful if you have a class full of above grade level students, those students have to GROW and maintain their 'place in line' as compared to all other students in NC.

I will speak to Special Education, ESL, Title 1 and AIG about how the most productive way to involve them in our discussions this time. If you have an idea, please share it! We could invite them the entire time or even have a set time for them to come in and discuss the students they share with grade level teachers.

Here are the dates again and the logistics.

  • We WILL have Leaders Achieve on these dates. More details to come if we pull specialists to be involved in the discussions.
