The Weekly Word from CDS FP, Aug 13, 2020
2020–2021 School Year Welcome!
Greetings CDS students and families! Welcome back to school after what I am sure has been a summer that you will not soon forget.
We are eager to have our students back on campus and to offer a safe learning environment.
We will be welcoming students, August 18th — our first day back to school. School starts at 8am, so please drop off students from 7:45-8:00am. Details about this whole process will be shared in detail in a specific arrival and dismissal message. In addition to sharing the document, we will host an information session via Zoom on Monday, August 17. We will share details and plans of the first week of school.
If you are new to CDS FP, then we likely met at the FP New Parent Orientation. If you couldn't make that session, we are very much looking forward to meeting you in the coming days, and offer you a sincere welcome to the First Program.
We have a dedicated team of passionate educators who are responsible for making this school the success that it is. It is my privilege to serve as Director of First Program for the ninth year. We look forward to being successful with our CDS community in the many challenges that lie ahead. Here's looking forward to what will be a truly memorable year!
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill
Director of First Program

New Timetable
We are happy to share with you some of the changes to our timetable.
One notable change is the the timing of lunch and recess. A goal we wanted to achieve was separation from Middle School and High School during lunch time. In order to do so, we have an early lunch, and an afternoon recess.
A second change is the move to one Lab choice per week when in the past we had two. This is for Fall Season. We will reconsider this for the remainder of the year. The benefit of doing this is it provides time for us to meet students' individual learning needs through flexible teaching and learning time: Teaching and Learning Care (TLC) — Assessing and Addressing Student Needs. Ms. Jennifer Kim will offer a parent session to provide more information about the classes.
Communication — Seesaw Family Announcements
Teachers will be communicating with families utilizing Seesaw. This program acts as a communication tool as well as what we use to showcase students' e-portfolios. Parents will receive Family Announcements from teachers via Seesaw.
Teachers will be communicating with parents about supplies for students to bring to school, take-home-folders, and more.
If you have any questions about this format, please communicate with your teacher or the FP administration.
FP teachers have been collaborating and planning — working so hard to prepare for a great start to the year. We are fortunate to have new wonderful additions to our staff, as well as a few new roles for FP veterans. See below for New Faces and New Places!

Special Education (SPED) — Ms. Wolfe
Hello! My name is Christine Wolfe and I am thrilled to be joining the CDS team. I am originally from the US and was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee (home of country music). I then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for college where I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary and Special Education and Master’s in Special Education both from Saint Joseph’s University. I remained in Philadelphia after graduating and began teaching special education. I have also held roles as a Curriculum Coordinator and an administrator at a special education school in the Philadelphia area. I am passionate about differentiating instruction and providing support so that all students can succeed. In addition to teaching, I love traveling (and eating all of the local food), reading, and exercising. I am looking forward to the new school year and getting to meet everyone in the CDS community!

Labs (co-curriculars) & After School Program (ASP) (extra-curriculars) — Fall Season
Labs & After School Program will begin on Monday, August 24!
Labs:
During the first week of school, teachers will be sharing information about the choices that students will have to make. Each child will choose a Mon/Wed Lab. This happens at school by students and teachers.
Please also view the selection of Lab choices and talk about it with your child at home. What are they most interested in, etc. Communicate!
ASP:
Info will be shared here and on the FP website. Choosing ASPs is done at home by parents and children.
