Meet the Principal

Dear Solon Families,

It is my honor to have spent 23 of my 37 years in education as the Principal of Solon Robinson Elementary School. Here at Solon, every student is “Born to Shine”. In order for our students to shine as bright as they possibly can, we challenge them each and every day with a rigorous and relevant curriculum. Our Music, P.E., Media, and Art programs are considered to be part of the essential core curriculum. We believe we must work in partnership with you to support your children as they work to radiate ever brighter academically, socially, and emotionally. We believe providing a nurturing and compassionate environment that honors differences and diversity is essential to helping this success take root. The sun is known for being an exceptional source of energy and life. Our Solon faculty has a focused collective energy towards providing a strong relevant education that will prepare our students to be responsible and productive individuals throughout their lives. We want each of our Stingers to leave us with the tools they need to shine their absolute brightest and beyond.

I look forward to partnering with you this year,

Barbara Merrill, Principal

Meet the Assistant Principal

Dear Solon Families,

I am honored to continue to be part of the the Solon Robinson family as the Assistant Principal. While this is my third year at Solon, it is my 19th year working for the Crown Point Community School Corporation. I have experience teaching students in all grades from kindergarten to fifth grade. I have a Master’s Degree in Education and Administration through Indiana Wesleyan University, and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Manchester College. My son, Jackson (age 14), and I live in Crown Point. We love learning, working, and being part of the Crown Point community!

I believe it is the job of school administrators to create a safe, supportive, student-centered learning environment as well as preserve and enhance a positive climate within the school community. I am excited to serve the educational, social, and emotional needs of students and families at Solon. I am looking forward to continuing to build relationships as we work together to help your children learn and grow. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance to your family in any way.

Yours in learning,

Melanie Pociask, Assistant Principal

Meet the School Counselor

Dear Spectacular Solon Families,

I am so excited to work with you all for my 3rd year here at The Beehive! Although only my 3rd year at Solon, this is my 7th year in education. I was previously a paraprofessional in an applied skills classroom. The best part about my job is getting to work closely with students, staff, and families! How lucky am I?! I am so un-bee-lievably excited for a great year!

With care,

Bailey Lauritzen, M.S.Ed, LPSC, NCC

Meet the Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports Paraprofessional

Dear Solon Families,

This is my second year in this position, PBIS paraprofessional, but this is my 10th year at Solon! I was previously an RTI paraprofessional. While in the PBIS role, I have learned that the best part is all of the positive connections with the students each and every day!

With excitement for the school year,

Julie Bodamer

Parental Access to Buzz

We are working on parental access to viewing information in Buzz. For the time being, please have your student log into Buzz to show you current grades and progress.

Child Abuse and Sexual Abuse Prevention Education for Students

Indiana legislature has adopted legal requirements that each Indiana public school, including charter schools and accredited nonpublic schools, shall provide age-appropriate and research and evidence-based instruction on child abuse and child sexual abuse to students in kindergarten through grade 12. Note that this expands the previous requirement from providing education in grades 2-5 to grades K-12. In order to meet the new requirements, Crown Point school counselors and home-school facilitators will be providing age-appropriate, research-informed student personal/body safety sessions from September 2022 through December 2022. At the elementary level, students will learn the Protect Yourself Rules with their counselor or home-school facilitator in a classroom session of approximately 30 minutes. Parents can view the Protect Yourself Rules and related materials at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation website fightchildabuse.org. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to contact Bailey Lauritzen, school counselor, with questions or concerns at (219) 663-2525 ext. 17102 or email at blauritzen@cps.k12.in.us

The Apples for the Students Program through Strack & Van Til Food Market enables our school to earn items to enhance play and learning experiences for our students. To earn these FREE rewards we simply have to collect as many register receipts as possible from September 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024. Ask your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and relatives to shop at Strack & Van Til Food Market and save every receipt.

There is currently a box for Solon at the Strack & Van Til location on Franciscan Drive (however, receipts can be submitted from ANY location). There is also a box in the office at school. Please send the receipts to school with your child as often as possible. Our PTO will count the value of the register tapes collected and redeem them for great educational rewards that benefit our children.

Thank you in advance for your participation!
