News From Mrs. Naeter
Friday night football and falling leaves, bonfires and big bowls of chili, candy corn and cold mornings – these are just a few of my favorite things about fall. For me October ushers in a season full of comfort and fun and that’s certainly no different here at North Elementary. Your children have successfully slipped back into the routine of school and there is a comfort in that. Their teachers spend many hours making sure that comfort level is there while also creating some amazing lessons full of fun. Please make sure you scroll down to the very bottom of this newsletter so that you are aware of all of the various events and learning activities that are taking place this month. We don’t want you to miss out on any of the fun!
Perhaps at the forefront of these events are our Fall Festival and Parent/Teacher conferences. Once again we will be celebrating our students and their reading skills at our Fall Festival. Students will have an opportunity to put on their Halloween costumes, play some reading games, earn prizes, and purchase food from various food trucks. This will be my first official Fall Festival at North and I am looking forward to visiting with families and watching everyone enjoy themselves while we ultimately celebrate the all important skill of reading. The festival will start at 5:30 and end at 7:00 pm. I hope to see you there!
Parent/Teacher conferences this year will be held on October 20th & 25th from 3:30-7:00 pm. If you have not met your child’s teacher yet, please pick one of these days and do so. Keeping this channel of communication open can be crucial for your child’s success. I look forward to meeting some of you for the first time and catching up with others.
I’m sure each of you have your own list of favorite things when it comes to fall. My hope is that you will have many opportunities to enjoy them while the season is here. Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your child’s life – that may be my MOST favorite thing in ALL seasons.

Spotlight On Kindergarten
As new kindergarteners at North Elementary, we have been learning all about being a toy expert! This means we have practiced how to play with our toys and how we can describe the toys we have played with. We have read books about sharing and how sharing makes playing fun! We have written a letter to our principal, Mrs. Naeter, explaining what toys we prefer to play with in the classroom. In addition, we have talked with partners about the toys we play with and what toys we prefer! We can't wait to continue to be toy and kindergarten experts! We will also be learning about apples and taking our field trip to Knowlan Family Farm to explore and learn more about how to grow apples from experts in the field.

Counselor's Corner
The month of October is Bully Prevention Month.
Kindergarten: Students will continue working on following directions, using positive self-talk, and being assertive.
1st and 2nd Grade: Students will listen to the book, One by Kathryn Otoshi. We will explore four types of bullying and how to be an upstander. We will also learn about Anger Spot and Calm Spot by Diane Alber.

We will celebrate Red Ribbon Week the last week in October with a Spirit Week (more details coming towards the end of the month).
