Tomie dePaola
Tomie dePaola is a beloved children's author and illustrator of more than 250 books! Tomie has won numerous awards. Tomie was the United States nominee in 1990 for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in illustration. The American Library Association has honored him with a Caldecott Honor Book, a Newbery Honor Book, and the 2011 Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for his "substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children."
Even when Tomie was just four years old, he told his family he wanted to write and illustrate children's books! Some of Tomie's books are autobiographical and based on his life as a child, such as the "26 Fairmount Avenue" series. Some of his stories are ethnic and based around his Irish/Italian ancestry.
