Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of February 22, 2021
Dear Families,
We look forward to a great week ahead. With the good news of more and more school staff being offered opportunities for vaccinations, we are excited to prepare for a possible return of students to campus later this spring. Please stay updated with Dr. Rodriguez's weekly Q&A and feel free to direct any site-specific questions to me, as well. The details are still in the works regarding schedules, etc, but the work to prepare safety measures are already underway.
Reminder that pre-ordered school pictures are available for pick up on Monday. If you cannot make it during distribution time, please call us and we can work with you to make other arrangements.
Packet distribution will be on Monday from 8:00-10:00 am and 3:00-5:00 pm and Library Distribution will be from 3:00-5:00.
Also, the end of Trimester 2 is on March 3rd and teachers will be sending home report cards on March 19.
Have a great week!

2/12 PVUSD Letter to Community
Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Hi Families,
If your child does not have a district Chromebook, it will be imperative that they have one as we begin state testing. We do have extra Chromebooks in the office but I recommend you call in advance just to be sure.
ELPAC testing, a state test for English language learners, begins March 2nd, and the SBAC assessment will begin in mid-April.
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is beach attire day. Students can dress up their beach-themed outfits and send them to me to be featured in the Mar Vista News!
Students will be continuing Unit 5 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.
The science fair looks quite a bit different this year, and due to the structure of distance learning, it is not being required for 4th-6th graders. It is still encouraged for those students wishing to participate, and they can still submit their projects directly to the county fair this year. You can find more information about that here: https://ca-scc.zfairs.com/?f=760d2abd-97bf-4923-871c-a48fb3af0565
Please note, the deadline for registration is March 1st.
We will have science fair boards for anyone that wishes to participate, please just reach out to me and we can set something up.
Danny

They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa

Curbside pickup is happening, Mondays 3-5 PM. If you can't make Mondays, your books will be in the office after Monday Afternoon, on the book cart to be picked up anytime M-F, 7-3.
Place holds following this tutorial on Mrs. Jacobsmeyer’s youtube channel:

Students now have a 3 week loan period and renewals are almost always an option! If I have a pressing need to have the book returned to fulfill another student's hold, I will give them a head's up for a week.

Also, Second Harvest Food Bank distributes groceries during most weeks during these afternoon meal pick up times.
