What's Happening in PBS?
Week of 10/12-10/16
This week we are continuing on with how we get out the DNA and analyze it to figure out who the blood at the crime scene belongs to. Yesterday we recapped DNA and it's structure. They also built the larger DNA model to see what the whole structure looks like. I did give them a fair warning that a DNA structure pop quiz might be coming up in their near future as well.
Today we moved into how we actually analyze a sample by using restriction enzymes and gel electrophoresis. Tomorrow we will continue our lesson and do some mini activities to understand how it works.
Thursday will be a catch-up workday where they will finish the conclusion questions for DNA analysis and will do 4 career journals. They will have to finish it outside of class before it will be due on Sunday. We finish out the week with starting the last section of Unit 1 where we discuss the release of medical records and HIPAA privacy. We will have a guest speaker come talk to the kids who will explain HIPAA and its regulations on Friday.
HOSA has also been busy this week
- Monday we had an information meeting over State Competition and what is involved
- Today we had our first biomed morning where we built skeletons and made them look schnazzy for the teachers to now vote on them.
- Tomorrow (wednesday) we will be having a Trauma Surgeon guest speaker come in during collab and talk about his career.
