Sixth Grade Newsletter
January 3, 2016
Dear Parents,
We hope you and your family enjoyed the holiday break.
English
We are beginning a new unit based on the novel Jason's Gold, about the Klondike Gold Rush. This week we will be studying primary sources and doing some close reading.
Social Studies
We will be getting back into our unit on the world in spatial terms. Students will have homework assigned on Monday, and due on Thursday. We will also begin our first round of the Geography Bee. Each class will have students who move on to the second round, which is a 5th-6th grade competition. The third and final round will be a 5th through 8th grade competition that will be held in the CMS/HS Auditorium. Stay tuned for more information. I will keep you posted!
Math
Welcome back! Prior to our winter break, students took a unit test on algebraic expressions. Some students wanted to take a retake and did so before break, while others wanted to wait unit the first week of January to try the retake. Students will have an opportunity to take that retake this week. During the first week back, we will review concepts that we learned about solving equations. We will continue to work on understanding how to solve equations.
Science
We will be getting back into the swing of things this week. We will be passing back assignments and looking at grades this week. This helps the students get back into "school mode". We will begin our Matter or Chemistry Unit this week.
Homework: students will have homework this week. Assigned Tuesday due Thursday.
