This is your very own special edition of Titan Talk made for you with love by Lisa O'Hanlon Cowles. I am as proud of you, as I am to be a Title I Parent Liaison (I only added this because I know my kids joke about my title ALL the time!).
Dear Emma,
I have known since before you were born. The very first time I heard your name was when your mother was pregnant with you. She was six months pregnant with you when I met her and I asked her if she knew if she was having a boy or a girl. She said a girl and you would be named "Emma." And now, it seems like a blink of an eye to me, you are getting ready to graduate high school.
When I finally meet you in person as a newborn baby, you were such a pretty baby with you dark lashes and luminescent eyes. Emma, after you were born every baby doll in our house would be named "Emma," by Kassie and Rebecca. Emma was the only name suitable for baby dolls in our house! Although you were undeniably one of the cutest babies I have ever seen, the thing that I remember most about you was the intelligence in your eyes.
At the age of four, I swear you were the smartest four-year-old that I have ever met. I knew then that you would do great things and go wherever your career desires took you. I was not surprised that you would apply to colleges in Boston and Scotland. You have always been worldly. You are so articulate, so intelligent, and poised.
Emma, we have been fortunate to have you as a backdoor neighbor. Our gate will always be called an "Emma Gate." I will always regret that I was the reason that our families grew apart. I know that I apologized to you many years ago, and you were very gracious to accept my apology. My natural consequence of being 100% wrong as an adult is that I missed out on years of you being in my home.
Emma, I want you to know that whoever has you in their home and is privileged to be in your company, lucky, and blessed. I am thankful for the years I got to know you, and I am thankful for the years I have lived behind you.
I have faith in you in all that you will do in the future. You were a beautiful baby, and you have grown into a beautiful young woman. There is not a doubt in mind that you are going to be successful in college, career, friends, and travels!
The world is yours for the taking Emma!
Love,
Mrs. Cowles
