In math this week, we started our week by completing our quarter 3 I-Ready assessment. Then, we continued to practice rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We looked focused on word problems that included real world situations where we would need to estimate sums and differences. While solving problems that required us to estimate differences, it was clear that we needed a good review of subtracting with regrouping! This caused our math plans to change and we took the end of the week to make sure we were grasping this important concept.
Next week we will begin our week reviewing unit 8 and will take our assessment on Wednesday. A test practice will go home on Monday and will be due back on Wednesday.
Unit 8 Review
-Addition Properties (Associative Property, Commutative Property, Identify Property)
- Addition Patterns

In reading this week, we continued our study of legends. We reviewed comparing and contrasting using information we learned from a biography and a legend on Davy Crockett. We then continued to practice this skill by reading a biography on John Chapman and a legend on Johnny Appleseed. This week we also completed our quarter 3 I-Ready assessment. I am very proud of how hard the children worked!
In writing this week, we continued to work on adding supporting details to our informational writing piece and we learned different ways to write an introduction using different mentor pieces. Next week we will learn different ways to write a closing and will go back and begin revising and editing our work!
Books we Enjoyed Together Last Week!
This week we started on our new science unit!
In this unit we will learn that:
- weather occurs constantly, while climate is average weather conditions of an area taken over a long period of time
-scientists record weather patterns so they can make predictions about future weather and identify changes in climate
- natural hazards, such as floods, hurricanes, tornados, droughts, blizzards, and landslides, cannot be eliminated, but people can take steps to reduce their impacts.
Science Fair Projects are Due on March 10!
February 25: Conduct Experiment- write down what materials you need, the procedure and perform your experiment. Record the Results.
March 3: Think about the Results and write your conclusions. Was your hypothesis correct? Did you learn something new?
March 6: Find report typed. Display board started.
March 10: Finalize details and complete display board.
