Superintendent's Update - 10.15.2021

Dear CPS Community,

We have had another wonderful week of weather for October with continued forecasts of warm days ahead. This weather has been especially helpful in allowing for outdoor learning at our schools, events, activities, and the long list of yard work to complete prior to the winter. I am looking forward to its continuation.

As we continue with the reopening of schools and acceleration of learning for students, I am excited to tell you about our new tutoring services for students in grades 5-12, provided by Paper. Paper is a secure, online tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Whether students are stuck on a homework assignment, studying for a test, or need someone to read and make suggestions to their essays, there will always be experts available online to assist them in over 200 subjects and more than 4 languages. Paper tutors have been specially trained to conduct expert, academic support in a secure, chat-based platform. This is a free service that our district is providing, so students are encouraged to use it as much as they need, whenever they need it. You will be hearing more about Paper through both the middle and high school administration. If you’d like to learn more about Paper, please watch this short video or can sign-up for a Paper-hosted Parent Info Session, available in both English or Spanish. Or if you’d like to speak to a member of the Paper team directly, you can reach them at parents@paper.co. To see Paper and the help it offers firsthand, we encourage you to log in with your child(ren) starting on Monday, October 18th. To get started, have your child simply log in to their Clever account and click on the Paper icon.

This week’s COVID Dashboard has been updated along with Pool Testing data. The positive cases continue to stay low with continued low positivity rates when pool testing is administered. This is terrific news for our school community, and I am hopeful that we will continue to remain in a downward trend for positive cases, allowing us to continue towards restoring normalcy. I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Yours truly,

Jay Lang, Ed.D.
