A Note From Mrs. Donnell

It is time for our first long break from the 2018-2019 school year. My hope is that everyone gets to enjoy some rest and relaxation during Fall Break. The weather in Southern Indiana is predicted to be more summer-like than fall, but I am not going to complain too much. I am not a fan of winter that will quickly follow the fall season.

As I was walking the hallways and going in and out of classrooms this week, I was so excited to see so much learning going on. Kindergarteners were practicing subtraction. 1st graders were playing a Bible memory game. 3rd graders were creating Slide presentations in Specials class. Middle School students were deep in discussion during Bible classes. High School students were busy debating the “half full - half empty” perspective. One bright young man made the statement, “I choose Joy!” It is really all about perspective. Choose joy and see if it changes your perspective this upcoming week.

Prayers go out to all of you who will be traveling this upcoming week and may you be blessed with God’s glory and grace.

Have a blessed weekend and Fall Break!

In Christ’s Love

Mrs. Donnell

5th Grade

Fifth grade spent the day at the Bartholomew County Landfill. They rode a trolley to the back of the landfill where they explored the wetlands and all the living creatures in and around it. At the Education Center, they learned about the benefits of recycling.

CCS Alumnus Jadon Darnell

Thank you to CCS Alumnus, Jadon Darnell and KidsCommons for all the hands-on experiences teaching the students about the wetlands. Thank you to Kari Spurgeon, Education Coordinator with Bartholomew County Solid Waste District for helping us understand how the Landfill operates and what we can do to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

STEM Activity

5th graders enjoyed a STEM activity building car ramps.

3rd Grade

The third grade students made yummy treats for God's feathered friends. Their assignment was to hang them up at home and observe, for five days, what kind of birds are attracted to them. The squirrels seem to like them to!

Congratulations, Mrs. Wright!

Congratulations to Mrs. Wright and her third grade class, recipients of the 2018 BARTA grant from the Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association.

Their $500 award gives them the ability to purchase pedometers and take part in a UNICEF Kid Power program - which rewards their physical movement by providing food/supplies for needy kids around the world. Congratulations to the 3rd grade class - and get moving!

Thank you, BARTA!

Former CCS teacher, Mrs. Williams from the Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association presented third grade students with their very own dictionaries. The kids are enjoying them very much!
