Safety Concern: COVID positive
Last night we learned that two students or staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with our response protocols as well as local and state guidance, the affected individuals will quarantine. Contact tracing has been completed and those identified as being exposed to the individual have already been notified directly.
In the future, only those who are directly impacted by a positive case will be notified and positive cases will be posted to Lichen’s school website and the district’s COVID-19 dashboard.
***When a class has been exposed to COVID-19, only the members of the class quarantine. If you have a sibling of a student who is on quarantine, and the sibling is symptom free, they are welcome to attend school.
As you are aware, we have put in place several strategies to reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 spread including the use of face coverings, enhanced cleaning of common touchpoints, encouraging frequent hand washing, attempting to maintain physical distance between individuals and minimizing the number of students or staff members who interact with each other. While these efforts greatly reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19 they cannot eliminate the possibility.
It is important that we each continue to monitor for symptoms of illness. Students and staff should not come to school or go to work if exhibiting any symptoms and should report being ill to the school. This is also an opportunity to remind each other of the importance of frequent hand washing, covering sneezes and coughs, wearing a face covering and maintaining as much distance between individuals as possible.
The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. The students and staff impacted by this COVID-19 case will not be allowed to return until completing the required quarantine protocols. We will continue to monitor the situation and share any additional information as it becomes available. Please reach out to me at 916-971-5237 or ewahl@sanjuan.edu with any questions.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Wahl, Principal
Covid Protocols Q and A
-When a student or staff tests positive, the first thing they need to do is contact the office, or if it's after hours, their child's teacher.
From there, admin will take the information and share with SJUSD safety team and communications office.
Information will be sent directly to the effected class, and more specifically to the cohort effected.
From there, Beth Wahl, Principal, will send information out school wide to notify all families that there are COVID positive case(s) on campus.
2. What does Quarantine look like?
-Quarantine is 10 days from the last date of exposure. Students in the effected cohort will move to distance learning, as will the teacher, during this time. The school will notify parents in the effected classrooms what the time frame looks like.
3. So, my one child needs to quarantine because of a positive case in their class....what about my other child? Do they come to school?
-Yes. If you have a sibling of a student who is in quarantine, and they feel fine and are symptom free....they are more than welcome to come on to campus for school!
4. Do we need to take a COVID test before returning?
-No. As long as you have quarantined for the 10 days, we are good to go. Taking a COVID test is always an option for you if you choose.
5. My student(s), is now missing in person school because their class is in quarantine...what now?
-Teachers are adjusting distance learning schedules and will notify you of the changes. School is still on:)
6. What if my student isn't feeling well and as a parent, I make the decision to keep them home? Can they still attend the afternoon session of Zoom?
-Yes. Students are welcome to move to the afternoon group if they are quarantining, or not well and need to stay home. Let your teacher, and Mary in the office, know this is taking place.
