The Latest
Things are happening very fast lately, as you know, and we are getting everything ready for Distance Learning at Heritage High School!
I wanted to begin by calling your attention to a couple of items.
Heritage is coming to Instagram!
We finally have established an account on Instagram. Look for more information and get ready to follow us!
Schedules
Student Schedules should be viewable in StudentVUE and ParentVUE today! Please know that if you see something different in another application (i.e. Turnitin, NoRedInk, etc.), the correct schedule is the one that appears in StudentVUE and ParentVUE.
Schoology
All students and parents should have access to Schoology today, along with the students' courses. Heritage staff have been hard at work preparing for Distance Learning, and if there is nothing in the courses, yet, there should be on Monday! The email that accompanied the Update had a great deal of information on how to access Schoology, as well as tutorials for parents on how to use our new learning management system (LMS). A Student tutorial will also be available today.
LCPS Updates
LCPS Updated its plans for Returning to School, providing more details on Attendance and Expectations for student behavior in a Distance Learning Model. The updated document can be found here.
Class Officers 2020-2021
Interested in running for class office? More information will be forthcoming in Advisory the first week of school, September 8-11. Be sure to watch the daily announcements and check the Heritage website and Activities website for the most up-to-date information, application, and requirements. ROAR Pride!
Attendance and Participation
Attendance in 100% distance learning at the start of the 2020-2021 school year is compulsory, and participation in synchronous and asynchronous activities is required. Attendance will be taken during synchronous learning sessions with the teacher. Participation will be monitored through Schoology, the new LCPS learning management system. If you have questions about attendance, please contact our Attendance contact, Angie Anderson at angie.anderson@lcps.org.
Thank you all, again, for your trust and understanding, as we prepare for the first Day of School on Tuesday, September 8th!
ROAR PRIDE!

Back to School Celebration
We are Celebrating the start of the 2020-2021 school year over several days:
Friday, August 28, 2020
Monday, August 31, 2020
- Description: Each Teacher will record a short video that will be posted to the Schoology site on Monday, August 31st. In the video, the teacher will introduce themselves, present some of the most important information about their class, and welcome their students. A “One Pager” will also be posted that highlights the most important information.
Wednesday, September 2, 2020
- 12 PM-3:00 PM
- Primary audience: students
- Starting at 12pm, we will run a virtual “Open House” for our students to meet their teachers, test the connections, and begin to build relationships.
- The students will follow their schedules by logging into Schoology and clicking on the GoogleMeet links to their respective teachers for a period of 15 minutes, and then will have 5 minutes between meetings.
- We will follow the schedule on the right.
- 6:30 PM-8:30 PM
- Primary audience: families/parents/guardians
- Starting at 6:30 PM, we will have a Family Open House where parents and guardians will follow their students' schedules and get to meet the teachers as well.
- Open House will start at 6:30 with the Advisory Period, and each meeting will run approximately 10 minutes with 5 minutes between meetings.
- We recommend families preview each teacher's welcome video to gain additional information.
- We also recommend families limit questions during this time to class and course specific questions, rather than student specific questions. Families with particular questions regarding their student are encouraged to reach out to teachers by email.
Thursday, September 3, 2020
- 12:00 PM-1:00 PM
- Primary Audience: parents and guardians with clarifying questions for teachers
- Description: Parents will follow a link to a teachers’ virtual classroom to have a chance to ask any further clarifying questions regarding class practices and procedures. Please note: Teachers will be paired with another teacher in the same “classroom.” Any child specific questions should be emailed to the teacher.
Class of 2021 (Senior) Information
Senior Class Sponsors
Introducing your amazing Class Sponsors, Ms. Knapp (jacquelyn.knapp@lcps.org) and Ms. Lee (cathy.lee@lcps.org). If you have any questions about Senior-stuff, they are also a great resource!
Senior Portrait Update
I sent an email two weeks ago with a link to sign up for a time for our first Senior Portrait days. Here is the link again. UPDATE: Victor O'Neill will now be steaming the shared drapes and tuxes between sessions. So, these will once again be an option, as long as families sign a waiver. Students can still come in their own formal attire and do not have to wear the drape or tux. If students do not choose to wear the tux or drape, they will still be featured in the Yearbook in their personal attire. Cap and gown photos also will be an option in this round of Senior Portraits (with steaming between each student session); however, we still will schedule a Cap and Gown-only session in the Spring where students can be photographed in their cap and gown they will order for Graduation.

Senior Parking Spaces
We have heard you loud and clear that you want to be able to paint our parking lot (or at least your very own spot of it)! We are ready to help you make that happen! Here is the information you need to do just that!
Senior Fees
More information will be coming about the Senior Fees. As before, the Senior Fee will be collected at the Balfour website. Balfour is our vendor for caps and gowns. Once the links have been set up by Balfour, we will send them out to you, but for now, here's what Seniors in the Class of 2021 will be charged:
- Cap and Gown-$45
- Senior T-Shirt-$15
The Cap and Gown are mandatory for all seniors! The Senior T-Shirt is optional, but highly encouraged! We would like all of our seniors to pay and complete their cap and gown information by October 15th, so we can get our cap and gowns delivered to you in time for our Cap and Gown only school picture day. If the senior fee is a problem for your family, please reach out to us. As we get closer to the Spring and we see what conditions might be, we will provide more information about the Senior Trip and Pool Party and other end-of-year activities.
Heritage Counseling Senior Support
Seniors, I wanted to draw your attention to the Heritage School Counseling newsletter and the Senior Corner section. Your Counselors are hard at work, preparing guidance for you, as you prepare for what comes after Graduation!
Graduation 2021
This has not been scheduled yet, but as soon as it is, and we have a plan for it, I will let you know. Obviously, just as with Graduation 2020, much depends on physical distancing guidelines and the current state of health concerns. Although it will be here before we know it, there is still a lot of time between now and June, 2021, and as we are all well aware, a lot can change. However, now that we have seen all kinds of graduation ceremonies from inside Gyms to outside on the field to small, intimate individual ceremonies, I can assure you that we will do everything we can to make it meaningful for our graduates and families, because you deserve it!

Pick up of Instructional Materials
We are working with our teachers on a plan for pick up of Instructional Materials. We are looking at a pick up window during the week of September 14th (the second week of school).
