M5 Roaring 20s Boom or Bust
Lesson 3
The Roaring Twenties
The Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age
During the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age, which took place in the United States from the 1920s to the early 1930s, there was a great sense of excitement and social change. This era was known for its lively music, particularly jazz, which originated from African American communities. People enjoyed dancing to the upbeat rhythms of jazz music in speakeasies, which were secret bars that formed during the Prohibition era when alcohol was illegal.
Additionally, women's fashion took a significant turn with the introduction of flapper dresses, which were shorter and looser than previous styles, symbolizing women's newfound freedom and independence during this vibrant and transformative period in American history.
In the 1920s, cities in America experienced significant growth and change. This was a time of skyscrapers, new technologies, and a bustling economy. Cities like New York, Chicago, and Detroit expanded rapidly as people from rural areas moved in search of jobs in factories and industries. The 1920s marked a period of urbanization and modernization, shaping the cities we know today.
