Announcements
It's Red Ribbon Week! This week, our school will be focusing on ways to keep ourselves healthy and living a drug-free life. Our them this year is "Respect Yourself," and each day we will focus on ways we can respect ourselves by making healthy choices and positive decisions. In honor of Red Ribbon Week, we will have the following dress-up days:
- Tuesday: "Put a Cap on Drugs" - wear a hat to school
- Wednesday: "Team Up Against Drugs" - wear your favorite sports shirt or jersey
- Thursday: "Proud to Be Drug Free" - wear red
- Friday: "Our School Chooses to Be Drug Free" - show Dolphin Pride and wear your LCM Spirit Wear or our school color (blue!)
Congratulations to the amazing students of Room 26 for being this month's A.R. Classroom of the Month for 4th/5th grade. Our class had the most students reaching level 1 in A.R. so far this year, so at Flag Salute on Friday, I got to compete against the teachers of the A.R. Classrooms of the Month from 1st grade and from 2nd/3rd grades in a "Rodeo Challenge." Our challenge was a horseshoe toss and somehow I won!! We get to have the A.R. "horse" in our classroom this month. I am so proud of the reading effort your students are showing!
Please check your emails for a Sign-Up Genius link for parent-teacher conferences. The majority of my conferences will be held on Monday, November 14. I run my conferences on schedule and absolutely LOVE getting to talk to parents about the progress students are making in 5th grade, so please make sure you arrive on time so we have enough time to discuss your child. (Thank you in advance!)

We are continuing our 3rd unit in ELA, which has a nonfiction focus aligned with our Science standards on cells and plants. We have been having fantastic discussions about the books we are reading, including topics such as plant genetics, plant adaptations, cells, the many uses of plants, etc.
We have also begun to conduct research. Students are learning how to cite sources and take notes during research. It has been wonderful to see how excited students are about doing research!
