Matisse was born December 31, 1869 in Le Cateau-Cambresis, France. He was involved in many movements, such as, Impressionism, Modern art, Neo-Impressionism, Modernism, and Fauvism. Matisse studied 3 years with a french painter named Gustave Moreua, who encouraged his students to discover their own style--and Matisse did. Henri's most famous piece of art work is "Women with a Hat". It is currently at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
