Mrs. Eske's Team: Building Leaders
4th Grade Newsletter * Week of Sept. 12-16
From the Desk of Mrs. Eske:
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Wow!!! It's only Tuesday and what an exciting and eventful couple of days we have had!!! Yesterday, we were finally IGNiTED!! The anticipation of getting new Chromebook devices was certainly worth the wait, based on the smiles that I saw from students yesterday!! I sure hope that you have a chance to visit our class Facebook page as I uploaded photos from our IGNiTE Kick-Off Assembly and the celebration of IGNiTE in our classroom too!
Thank you for encouraging your child to remember to charge their device each night as we will be using our devices daily and often many times throughout the day.
Believe it or not next week already marks the middle of 1st Quarter!! I will be sending out Mid-quarter progress reports in your child's Monday folder next week. Please sign and have students return by Friday, September 23rd.
Next week will be a busy week too as we will be going on our first field trip to explore the College of the Ozarks campus, to learn about how food gets to our dinner tables from our local farming communities. We leave on Monday, September 19th at 9AM and will return around 2. If your child has not returned their permission slip they need to do so as soon as possible. :) I don't want anyone to miss out on this fun experience! Open House is also next week! On Thursday, September 22nd, we have Open House from 4:30-6! The students have really been working hard and I can't wait to showcase all of their success so far!
I hope that everyone has a fantastic week!

Building LEADERS one subject at a time! And... Attendance Happiness!!
Reading: This week in reading we will be continuing to practice the comprehension strategy of "visualizing" while reading the books, Song and Dance Man and The Old Woman Who Named Things. Ask your child what they remember about these books and what they visualized. We will also be using our Chromebooks to complete online reading activities and begin working on Lexia.
Math: WOW! I am SO happy to share good news with you about our first unit test!! We did an amazing job! Hopefully your child brought home their test today to show you how they did! A large percentage of the class earned either A's or B's!!! Students who earned great scores on the test were able to get on Dreambox today! Students that were still having difficulty with place value and/or rounding were met with individually and in small groups to reinforce those concepts. Students that received low scores need to continue to practice those concepts and skills at home. Thank you for your support! :)
This next unit focuses on addition and subtraction. We have already started working on addition and subtraction properties and patterns.
Science: We will will wrap up our Matter Unit by exploring volume, reviewing, and taking our first test in science!
Writing: This week we will read Gorky Rises and Wizzle, while exploring elements of a fantasy story. We will use our Chromebooks to create a magical potion and publish a fantasy story based on our creative potions!
