Early Life

  • Jack Dempsey was born in Manassa, Colorado on June 24,1985. He was a nomadic traveler from 1911 to 1916. Dempsey began boxing in the small mining towns of Colorado under the name "Kid Blackie". Dempsey emerged from saloon floor- boxing matches, in which he won 80 professional fights by the age of 24. Probably best known for his glorious knockout victories.

Later Life

  • Dempsey proved his phenomenal boxing skills in a battle of "David and Goliath" against his opponent, Jess Willard in 1919. All thanks to his killer left hooks and iron strength. This victory earned Dempsey both heavyweight championship and the nickname of the "Manassa Mauler," which terrorized the opponents in the ring. But it wasn't all smooth sailing for Dempsey. September 23, 1926 Dempsey lost his heavyweight title to his opponent Gene Tunney

  • But of Course knowing Dempsey he didn't let that bring him down. The following year, 1927, Dempsey and Gene went toe to toe again, but it wasn't meant to be, with Gene coming out the victorious one once again.

  • Jack Dempsey had a marvelous career in which had accomplishments/impact, such as winning the heavyweight title in 1919, defending it for a little over seven years, finally getting named greatest boxer of the half-century, and topping it off later by being an inductee into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1954.

  • Dempsey impacted the 1920s by opening the eyes of the citizens by giving them thrilling matches to watch, and by just being a good person overall. A person that didn't have a huge ego, kept all his money for himself, or had bad behavior.
