Attendance Matters
Thats right, attendance laws are still in effect during Virtual Learning! This means, your scholar needs to be logged on every morning at 8am for Morning Meeting and/or complete classwork EVERYDAY by 11:59pm.
- If your student turns in late work - For example, If your student was assigned classwork for Monday but turned it in on Tuesday, the assignment will still be accepted for partial credit but your student will still be counted absent on Monday.
- Truancy Laws still apply. After 10 or more unexcused absences, Truancy will be filled against you.
- 10 consecutive absences will result in withdrawal. You will need to go through the process again for re-enrollment.
All excuse notes will need to be emailed to Ms. Rodriguez our Attendance Clerk at DRodriguez3@mesquiteisd.org.
Virtual Learning Tips!
- Wake up your student at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled live times. This will ensure they are alert and ready to learn.
- Purchase headphones for your child to use during their scheduled live times. This will block out any background noise so your child can hear what is taking place in the live session.
- Set up your child's virtual learning area in a quiet, distraction free place so they can focus on their lesson.
- Have your child's supplies close by so he/she won't have to leave their area during the live lesson. We don't want them missing out on any important information.
- Print out or write down your child's schedule with their codes and/or links to get him/her into a routine of when they are live or working in their platform - Seesaw or Google Classroom.
- Parents, we ask that you are mindful of the background noise, conversations, and attire during your child's live lesson times. We are witnessing parents/guardians using inappropriate language and attire that is accidentally displayed and picked up on your child's live session for everyone to see and hear.
- Make sure the camera is on! We want to see your child's lovely face but most importantly we want the progress of your child to be accurately measured by their teacher. The best way to do this is to have live, interaction, with your child and his/her teacher and peers.

September 4th - National College Colors Day
On the Friday before Labor Day, National College Colors Day encourages everyone to display their team spirit. Across the United States students, parents, family, fans, and alumni will be wearing their team colors. Be sure you’re celebrating by wearing your college team’s colors and apparel.
Team spirit has long been a foundation of cheering athletes to victory. Wearing the colors of the school as well as singing the school song goes along with the energy of the day. Not only does it bring back memories, but it carries on traditions. Sometimes, these traditions run deep, too.
September 7th - No School!
September 11th - Last day of Virtual Learning
September 14th - Campuses Open
September 14 - 18th - Hanby Spirit Week
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
Student Guidance Lessons
The school counselor is currently providing Guidance Lessons virtually to students during one of their google meetings set up by their teacher to discuss SEL.
What is the SEL?
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Students will work towards personal and academic goals by learning:
- Impulse control
- Stress
- Management
- Self-discipline
- Goal-Setting
- Awareness of emotions/feelings
Devices
Are you using a district device? If you opted in and are using a district device, your child must bring his/her device back and forth to school each day, Grades 3-5 only. Grades Pk - 2 will leave their devices at campus, where they will be locked and stored away. There will not be any devices available to check out or loan during the school day.
If you haven't already, please remember to pay your device fee in order for your child to have other programs such as Youtube and gaming programs on their device. Many teachers use Youtube for lessons and other resources in their class. You can pay the fee in your child's Skyward Account.
