PHS Welcomes New Staff
This year PHS welcomed several new staff members and one returning staff member. Please join us in welcoming them to our school and our district.
Cody Bradfisch spent his first five years teaching at Warrensburg High School. He grew up in Grafton, Illinois and has a younger sister who is also a teacher. Mr. Bradfisch has joined our Social Studies Department and said, “The first couple weeks have been good, even with everything going on. Our students and I are all trying to adjust to this new atmosphere of education and doing the best we can to learn together.”
Paul Day joins the Physical Education Department, coming out of 1 year of retirement for his 28th year in teaching. Previous to his retirement he taught at Vianney. Mr. Day has been married for 31 years to Jennifer. They have three children, Joe (30), Jessica (28) and Tanner (26) as well as two grandchildren, Lucy (2) and Ethan (5 months). Mr. Day and his wife love to travel in their free time.
Dana Imler joins us for her 15th year of teaching. She originally hails from Wisconsin and started teaching in northeast Iowa. Her family moved to Missouri 10 years ago. She previously taught science at Lonedell R-14 and then Lafayette High School. She is married with 2 daughters Ellie (10) and Elsa (7) who was born 6 months before Frozen the movie. Her husband is also a teacher.
Aaron Leggett joined the Science Department this year. Mr. Leggett comes to us from the Wentzville School District and is in his second year of teaching. He is engaged to Stephanie and they have a dog named Sunni and are expecting a daughter in October.
Russ Rowbottom is not new to the district but we do want to include him in our ‘new staff’ this year. We were in need of 1 more science teacher this year and Mr. Rowbottom agreed to come out of retirement to teach at the high school once again. He spent 32 of his 33 years in education in the MVR-III District, including teaching at PHS and Principal at Meramec Valley Middle School. He is married to high school teacher Cindy Rowbottom. They have five children and four grandchildren. He enjoys reading, movies, and traveling all over the US and Canada watching his kids play hockey.
Blair Thompson accepted the position of Activities Director at PHS. He has been in education and coaching for 19 years. Mr. Thompson spent the last 9 years at Jefferson City High School where he was the Head Basketball Coach and taught Drivers Education. He and Sarah have been married for 15 years and have a son Colt (9) and a daughter Stevi (7). He and his family enjoy playing and watching various sports. Mr. Thompson said, “We are excited to be a part of the MVR3 community and all it represents.”

Riverbend Middle School
Great things are happening at Riverbend Middle School. Students are training in style in their new weight room. The focus of the class is to build strength both through weight training and cardio exercises. The new equipment has allowed the school to expand the courses offered and offer additional students the opportunity to experience intense physical training with Coach Hillhouse and Coach Reed.

Reading Sponsors Needed
Teachers know how important it is for students to read and have a book in their hands. Do you remember as a child getting your Scholastic order form? There are times when money may be tight and a family can't afford to purchase a book. Scholastic is trying to make it easier to get books in the hands of children.
One Coleman Elementary teacher, Mrs. McElwain, took to her social media to challenge parents and friends to be Reading Sponsors. How does it work? You volunteer to sponsor one child for the school year to get one, $1 book per month during the school year. Yes, only $1 a month to give a child the gift of reading! So, for a full school year it costs you only $9 for a child to have a new book every month. When the teacher places the order, she will pick from the list of $1 books that Scholastic offers every month.
With the overwhelming amount of support, and many people sponsoring this wonderful challenge, every student in Mrs. McElwain's class will receive several new books each month!
This is an amazing program and if you would like to help sponsor a student at Coleman Elementary, reach out to the school's library assistant to sign up to sponsor a student with the gift of reading. Email Anda Reidt at areidt@mvr3.k12.mo.us to sponsor a student for the $1 a month Scholastic Reading program.
