Parent Connect
OPTING IN LAST YEAR OR OVER THE SUMMER WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY OPT YOU IN FOR THE 2021/2022 SCHOOL YEAR. PLEASE FILL OUT THE OPT-IN FORM AGAIN IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN A PART OF PARENT CONNECT.
Keep in mind, there will not be anyone in this directory right a way as we are just now sending out the opt in form. It will be updated weekly.
Scholastic Books

School’s starting up again and that means Scholastic Book Clubs is open for ordering. Because of the pandemic, Scholastic is still delivering books directly to homes, rather than shipping them to the teacher to hand out.
Each month, we’ll publish a reminder about placing orders in the school newsletter. Orders can be for any grade level. When you use the school’s code below with your order, ORVA earns points with Scholastic. The points will be used to purchase books as incentives and prizes throughout the year.
Website/ordering link: https://clubs.scholastic.com/home
Click on Connect to Teacher and enter the class code.
Class Code: XQ8XT
Be sure to choose the ship to home option when you’re ready to order.
Orders will be placed for this month on September 30, which means that orders will ship after that date.

Elementary Spotlight
Hello ORVA families! My name is Katy Pointer and I’m our new elementary Dean of Students and Instruction. This year marks my 13th year at ORVA, but my first year in this new role. My role here at ORVA is to work closely with our teachers to help make sure they are meeting the needs of every student enrolled. I will be meeting with teachers regularly to look at student data and discuss any changes we can make to help everyone succeed. You may notice me pop into classes just to see what you’re all up to. Don’t worry, no one will be in trouble! I just love seeing our amazing teachers doing what they do best! I may also sub some of your sessions so your teachers can go observe other teachers in our school and learn even more tips and tricks. I am also here to support our amazing families. If you have questions or concerns about your student, our curriculum, anything, please do not hesitate to reach out! You can always reach me at kapointer@oregonva.org or 503-956-6609. Let’s have an amazing year here at ORVA!

Student one-on-one sessions
ORVA elementary teachers are so excited to meet with every student one-on-one. If you have not yet met with your teacher, please be sure to check your schedule and attend at your designated time. These sessions are very low stress and will help us learn your student’s strengths and areas for improvement. They will be using this information to create small groups and help sessions to fill in any gaps there may be and help your student through their curriculum.
Elementary Small Groups – Beginning October 4
Once your teachers have finished their one-on-one sessions, they will be creating small groups for those students who need extra support. Many of our students will have at least one group added to their plan. Please keep an eye on your e-mail and schedule. Small groups will begin the week of October 4!
Student/LC e-mail glitch
We have become aware of a glitch happening through our student e-mail system. LCs are supposed to be cc’d on every e-mail sent to their students, but this is not happening for some (but not all). If you seem to not be seeing e-mails from your student’s teacher, please make it a habit to check your student’s e-mail at least once daily. Students should also be checking their e-mail daily. We are hoping this issue is fixed soon!
