Discipline Referral Process
Frequently Asked Questions:
When will we start using the new referral system?
- Right after break- Jan. 2.
How often will admin be checking the referrals?
- Admin will get a notification via email every time a referral is filled out for a minor or major behavior. Admin has a daily meeting so we will discuss student trends and behavior issues on a daily basis.
How will admin follow up and let teachers know what happens with students after a major behavior referral is filled out?
- Lauren and Mark will follow up on the major behavior referrals within 48 hours to let teachers know how it was handled.
When should teachers be contacting parents about behavior concerns?
- Teachers should contact parents via email or phone anytime a minor or major referral is submitted. For major referrals, admin will also be following up and contacting parents. Teachers should communicate with parents within 48 hours of the referral being submitted.
Should teachers be submitting referrals for every minor issue that happens in the classroom, even if it is handled on the spot?
- You do not have to submit a referral for every behavior that occurs in your classroom. Any behavior that you would typically report to admin in the past should still be submitted using the new referral process. If you would like to track more minor behaviors for data and tracking purposes, feel free, but if you feel that you can handle the issues in your classroom without a referral, that is fine, too. Essentially, you should not be spending more time that you already are on submitting referrals--this process should simply streamline the referrals and will help with our communication with families.
Will the form letters be generated automatically if teachers would like to email them home?
- Yes. Whenever you submit a discipline referral (major OR minor), you will receive notification that you submitted a referral.
- For a MINOR referral, you will also receive a second email with the letter attached.
- For a MAJOR referral, admin will receive the email with the letter attached and will forward it to you so that you know admin received it.
