NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL, Mrs. Hemme
Dear Parents,
What a great start to the year! We are so thankful that our PTA donated solar viewers so that our students could participate in the viewing. The students and teachers were so excited! The picture below is just one example of how AMAZING the experience was for students!
The students and staff members will be practicing emergency drills the first two weeks of school. We have already completed our first fire drill/reverse evacuation, and lock out drill. The students did great! Each morning we introduce the drill on the morning announcements and then the teachers have time with their classes to review the procedures. This week we will be completing our drills with a lock down, severe weather drill and evacuation drill. Our first priority is student safety!!
Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
Last week in the Monday folders you received a blue sheet with our drop off and pick up procedures. Just a few reminders:
Please do not drop off your children before 7:15 AM as there is no one on duty to monitor students safety.
When dropping off at the front circle make sure to pull all the way around to the first cone. Our wonderful safety patrol is there to help!
When students arrive they will need to go to the cafeteria (K-2nd) or the gym (3rd-5th) until they are dismissed by a staff member at 7:30 AM. Students can enter through the foyer by the gym.
Students that arrive after 7:35 AM can enter through the front doors.
When picking your child up please make sure that you pull around to the first available cone. Make sure that your child enters the car on the right side so that they are not walking through the cars and traffic.
Technology Updates
As Grapevine-Colleyville ISD expands its 1:1 program to include all students in kindergarten through twelfth-grade, technology services has made a change to the fee structure. Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, families will be provided a device at zero cost.
While the initial device is provided at no cost, there are fees assessed based on incident repairs. The first incident will be repaired for free for all students. For students that paid a $50 student fee in the 2016-2017 school year, their second incident will also be repaired at no cost. Students that did not pay the fee last year will be charged $15 for the repair after the second incident. For all students, after the third incident, the fee will be the full cost of the device repair. In the instance that the damage to the device is intentional, the cost of the repair will be based on the damage regardless of how many incidents have occurred.
Beginning Sept 5, the fifth-grade students at Heritage elementary will have the opportunity to take their devices home. Fifth-grade parents will be receiving more communication and information at curriculum night!
Watch D.O.G.S Information
Information will be coming home in the Monday folders August 28. There will also be a table with sign up opportunities at Curriculum night. We love our Watch D.O.G.S.!

Notes from the Membership Chair, Erin Savoie
HES PTA is excited to be working towards a 100% membership goal for our school. This means at least one PTA member per student on campus. We want every parent, teacher, grandparent, etc. to feel like they are a part of HES and know what's going on with our students and in our school.
Each membership dollar goes towards providing events, supplies, recess equipment, teacher training and so many other things that directly benefit our school. Your $10 party donation makes sure that your child and their class has awesome holiday parties throughout the year.
Did you know? As a PTA member, you receive discounts at retailers such as Great Wolf Lodge, hotels.com, Costco, Six Flags, Texas Ranger tickets, HP, Enterprise, Dell and more.
Classes are in a competition to get this 1 to 1 ratio and each class that achieves 100% membership for their class will get “Extra Recess and Popsicles” as a prize. Don’t let your child’s class be left out, make sure to join today. www.heseagles.org/join

Volunteer of the Week
Erin Savoie, MEMBERSHIP CHAIR
Our Membership Chair collects and inputs member information, ensures the paperwork is in order with the state of Texas, and that all dues are submitted properly. We are grateful for all that the Membership Chairperson does for HES, and this year that person is Erin Savoie!
As a token of the PTA’s appreciation, Erin has the opportunity to park all week in the reserved “Volunteer of the Week” parking space located by the Kindergarten door. Many thanks, Erin!
