Jaguar Spawtlight: Jeffrey Ubinger
Hey there Jaguars! For those of you that don’t know me – I’m Jeffery Ubinger (Mr. U). I’m originally from El Paso, TX and have lived here in Rochester for ten years now. Just this past summer, I got remarried – June 27th! My wife and I have four kiddos between the two of us; needless to say we stay busy! Our four boys are Evan (9 – 3rd grade), Levi (8 – third grade), Seth (8 – second grade), and Luke (5 – Kindergarten). Sarah is a librarian at Dover-Eyota Public Schools and is going back to school herself to become a secondary English teacher. As for me, I’m your typical licensed Social Studies teacher as in, this will be my seventh year teaching – none of which have been Social Studies! I have my K-6 Elementary and 5-8 Social Studies through Winona State and my M.Ed. through the Graduate Induction Program (GIP) from Winona State. I’ve coached baseball and football at a couple different schools and enjoy cycling in my spare time. Since I’m a glutton for punishment, I’ll also be returning to school to get my 5-8 Science endorsement through Augsburg.
So far I have taught:
2019-Present; John Adams: 7th and 8th grade PLTW
2018-19; Mayo: 9th–12th grade Special Education – Learning Disabled
2017-18; John Adams: 7th and 8th grade Health, Mayo HS: 10th grade Health
2016-17; Willow Creek: 6th grade Science and Math
2015-16; Dover-Eyota: 7th grade Life Science and 8th grade Earth Science
2014-15; Kingsland: 6th grade Science, Math, and Language Arts
2013-14; Willow Creek: 6th grade Science and Math (GIP)
Through all of this, I’ve made some lasting relationships and undoubtedly, run into colleagues or former students just about everywhere I go in Rochester. Although I have yet to teach in a room with windows, I look forward to the new adventure and getting to know you all much better. ☺
