COUNSELOR'S CORNER
During the month of November, Pennridge School District’s T.A.K.E.S.P.R.I.D.E. theme is Kindness. One surefire way to help create an atmosphere of inclusion and kindness is the Buddy Bench! Bedminster Elementary School graciously accepted a custom made Buddy Bench donated by former student, Timothy Sauers. The Buddy Bench is a special place on the playground where students can go if they feel lonely or do not have someone to play with at that time. The Buddy Bench helps to promote friendships and to ensure that each student has a place on the playground. It helps to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship.
Here are a few guidelines for using the Buddy Bench. (adapted from www.buddybench.org)
• Before you sit on the Buddy Bench, think of something you would like to do. Ask someone else to play with you.
• The bench is not for socializing. Only sit there if you cannot find anyone to play with.
• While you are sitting on the bench, look around for a game you can join.
• If you see something you want to do or a friend you want to talk to, get off the bench!
• When you see someone on the bench, ask that person to play with you.
• If you are sitting on the bench, play with the first classmate who invites you.
• Keep playing with your new friends! (adapted from www.buddybench.org)
Mini-Library New edition on Playground
Former Bedminster student, Timothy Sauers, also donated two custom made mini-libraries for students to use on the playground. The students may select a book from the K-2 or 3-5 library during recess. Once the student reads the book, please return the book to the mini-library or donate another book.

Thank you Noah V., Addison S. and Liam C. for writing the following article.
The office assistants helped Ms. Barndt and Mrs. DiPaolo with things like: writing this article for the newsletter, copying, sorting, stuffing, and then alphabetizing envelopes containing flyers for our local preschools, shredding papers, creating a Google spreadsheet of the principal’s library, organizing the cafeteria stage, answering the door to welcome parents and guests and even answering the phones.
Lunch with Mrs. DiPaolo and some of the teachers was a lot of fun. Each lunch, Mrs. DiPaolo brought a surprise snack for the students, and they enjoyed lunch in the conference room, with festive plates and napkins. The first grade students were so surprised to see their teachers at the “party” as a few students had referred to the event. These opportunities are most definitely the favorite of Mrs. DiPaolo, and she hopes to find more opportunities for these types of events in the future.
