World War I

the war that was to end all wars.

The devastation of the war

Dear Editor,

Why would you go to war for no reason? That's the question I'm asking myself right now. The men who went to war should have used common logic to realize this war would have terrible effects. When the soldiers first went to war their actions and opinions were far different. They were excited to fight for their country, To stand up against the enemy and make them back off. The problem is this was the first big war so these soldiers really didn't have a clue what they were getting themselves into until it was too late. Now that these soldiers have been to war do they still think positively about the war? They suffered through diseases, agressive animals, flooding and thousands dying every single day. I wouldn't be excited to join that war.

Sincerely,

An American citizen

Letter to a war veteran

Fighting for your country, My only question is why? Why did this war start and it was said that this war was to be the war that ended all wars. Did you and your men really believe that? " Did they believe when they answered the call, Did they really believe that this war would end wars?" (Green Fields of France) Over half the people who went to war never returned home. Think about that for a minute and be smart about your decision to jump into a war unaware of the consequences. If you were one of the few soldiers lucky enough to survive I hope you will be more careful in the future before you do something you will greatly regret.

Sincerely,

An American citizen.
