Her email is Emiley.scales@orlandoscience.org. Thank you so much for all that you do!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we explored Butterflies! We learned about their life cycle, how they compare to moths and how the monarch butterfly flies to Mexico! We also demonstrated what it would be like to be like to be a butterfly by hiding from predators, eating only from a straw and sleeping with our wings open.

We also had a unique presentation from STEM Connect about wind power engineering. The kids were able to meet an Engineering Professor from UCF and ask questions via a webinar. This was fun experience for the student being able to ask questions and learn through a webinar.

First Grade

This week Mrs. Beckman’s class began a book study on the chapter book “Monster In The Mangroves”. In math we began a new unit on 2D shapes. Have a super weekend!

Ms. Molnar’s class talked about cause and effect and story structure this week in class. We finished up our measurement and date chapter and rocked our chapter test! We are getting excited for field day!

Second Grade

Ms. Cybulski’s kids have been learning ancient civilizations and this week we are learning about Ancient Egypt! We learned about how family structure is different from ancient Greece. We also learned about the various inventions thought up by kids and have began our young inventors unit. Students are asked to look around and see what real life problems there are and to critically think up of solutions and inventions to help the world.

The FSA Math test will be on May 6 and 7. Please make sure our students are well rested, eat a good breakfast and are ready to do their best!

Permission slips for our field trip to Fun Spot are due by May 3. Please ask your teacher if you need another one.

Fourth Grade

This was a big week in fourth! We just got home from a great kayaking field trip just in time to get some photos in. More pics next week. Here are some kids from Press’s and Nemcik’s classes.

Fifth Grade

Students in Ms. Berray and Ms. Jensen’s classes have been reading “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. We will be finishing the book next week and then watching the movie! Also, the Study Island completion party was today (4/19/19) for science, math, and english/language arts. Congratulations to all the students that made it!

The last period of AR ends on May 1st. That is also when the end of year goal is due for AR.

Permission slips for Animal Kingdom are due by May 6th. Please ask your teacher if you need another one.

Sixth Grade

Ms. Gajus- We have had a productive last couple months finishing up all the remaining standards for 6th and 8th grade math. The students have been working very hard and I am proud of their efforts. This week we took the last math benchmark assessment to see where we need to focus our next few weeks before FSA testing begins. Students will take the FSA math on May 6th and 7th. Between now and then we will be reviewing the standards with the lowest mastery on the benchmark and will be completing a variety of review activities. Parents and students looking to review at home for the test may use the FSA Practice Materials posted on OSES Connect on their math course page. These materials are tied directly to the standards for the year and there are answer keys included. Keep up the great work, I know the students will do fabulous!
In Mrs. Bravo’s class the students did a great job with their Piñata project! They had a lot of fun in the process but also worked very hard. They learned about the history of the Piñata and other Spanish Speaking Countries celebrations, but they also learned how to work together as a team, being creative and solving issues they’ve had to make it happen. It was a great project to work on. Thank you so much to the parents for making this possible sending the materials and candy on time for the Piñatas!!! Here are the pictures!
