Westward Expansion Times
USA, Arkansas, Little Rock ( February 1, 1839)- Quatie Ross , wife of Cherokee Chif John Ross , died of pneumonia during the night. beginning in May 1838, soldiers removed 17,000 Cherokee and thousands of other Native Americans and forced them to march to Indian Territory by wagon, boat, and foot. Four thousand, including Quatie Ross , died along the way.
