FROM SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
Let’s Celebrate the 100th Day of School:
On Tuesday, 2/15 we will reach our 100th day of school. To celebrate, we will have a school-wide spirit day. Wear a number on your shirt! It can be your favorite number, the number of your favorite athlete (including your own if you’re an athlete), or any other number. Congratulations on 100 days of learning and growing!
Nominate an Outstanding Educator:
The annual HCPSS Educator Recognition Program sponsored by the Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee (GTAC) celebrates educators who demonstrate exemplary commitment to the needs of advanced-level learners and/or the Howard County G/T Education Program. Although we will not hold an in-person event this year, we still want to take this opportunity to recognize these outstanding educators.
Now through March 4, families and students have the opportunity to recognize a G/T Resource Teacher, content or classroom teacher, or administrator who has enriched the educational experience of advanced-level learners. ALL educators for whom submissions are received will be recognized.
Please see the link for full details: https://news.hcpss.org/news-posts/2022/01/g-t-advisory-seeks-nominations-for-educator-recognition/

INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING
Black History Month
Throughout each year we celebrate the diversity of all of our students at Lisbon. In February, we focus on Black History Month and highlight the important contributions of Black and African Americans who have helped shape our country and contributed to our society.
Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today. This newsletter has resources that can be utilized in the classroom or at home to celebrate Black History Month. Throughout the month of February, Lisbon Elementary School will recognize Black History Month and highlight the many accomplishments of African Americans.
There are a number of resources our teachers use throughout the school year and in February. We also want to share read-aloud books for kids from Netflix Jr. Many of these books can be found in our library and the Howard County Public Library.
Read Alouds
Grab a book, grab a friend, and join Netflix Jr. in celebrating Black voices during Black History Month. Full Episodes of Bookmarks included are:
- "I Love My Hair" read by Tiffany Haddish
- "I Am Enough" read by Grace Byers

- "Sulwe" read by Lupita Nyong'o
