This Is How We Lakeview
October 2022 Edition: Volume 4
Reminder about teen night tonight....to avoid football game traffic, we will be holding teen night from 7:00-9:00 pm. The same costume rules for school also apply for Teen Night.
If your student wants to dress up for Halloween, we will be dressing up on Monday, October 31st as this is Trick or Treat Night for Pickerington. Students must follow the student dress code and no face paint or full face mask.
For further guidance on appropriateness ask these questions:
1. Is my costume supposed to be funny? Is the humor based on making fun of real people, human traits or cultures?
2. Does my costume represent a culture that is not my own?
3. Does my costume reduce cultural differences to jokes or stereotypes?
4. Does my costume packaging include the words "traditional," "ethnic," "colonial, " "cultural," "authentic," or "tribal"?
5. Does my costume perpetuate stereotypes, misinformation, or historical and cultural inaccuracies?
6. Would I be embarrassed or ashamed if someone from the group I'm portraying saw me wearing this?
If you have any concerns about your student's costume please feel free to contact the main office, 614-830-2200.

Pickerington Area Food Drive Is Coming to Your Door on Beggars Night
The annual Pickerington area food drive is coming to a head as our Pickerington North and Pickerington Central National Honor Society groups collaborate for a fun tradition of turning the tables on Beggar’s night, Oct 31st from 6-8 pm. Panthers will be competing against Tigers on Halloween to bring in the most cans they can muster in one night. During the normal trick or treat hours, 6-8pm, students will go door to door asking for cans instead of candy. After scrounging for as many cans as they can, Pickerington North volunteers will head to the Kroger on Refugee Rd. and dump their cans into awaiting cars. Pickerington Central will have a secondary drop off that will be awaiting their collecting ghouls. The team that brings in the most cans will get an extra prize, and the cans will be dropped off the next morning to the Pickerington Food Pantry. Both schools will tally up the pounds of food gathered, and a winner will be crowned!

How Pickerington Schools Has Managed Its Resources Wisely
How Does Pickerington’s Tax Rates Compare to Other Central Ohio Communities?
As you consider the Pickerington Schools bond issue on the Nov. 8 ballot, it is important to note that Pickerington tax rates are among the lowest in the Central Ohio area. The following chart shows the total estimated annual taxes paid for a $300,000 market value home in various communities. It also assumes a gross income of $95,000**; a federally adjusted gross income of $78,300; and $15,000 in annual purchases of local taxable goods and services.
It is also important to note that even if the Pickerington Schools 2.80 mill bond issue on the November 8 ballot passes, tax rates are forecasted to fall by ½ a mill. This will make the new levy ‘feel’ like or be similar to a renewal in that tax rates won’t increase while the community continues its commitment.
You can learn more about the upcoming bond issue here. Information about voting is available at the Vote Ohio website. Absentee and in-person voting is already underway!

Art Matters
Greetings Lakeview Families,
October has been a busy month in the art room. Students have had experiences with many different art media and are really showing their creativity. Artworks currently on display are Islamic Radial Designs created by Art I students. These displayed works were selected through class critique by students. Art II students have created Mini Masterpieces (4 inch ink drawings) and Realistic Ceramic Foods and Digital Menu Designs. Art II projects display work for the entire class, every student has their work in the Lakeview Gallery.
I encourage you to start a conversation with your child about what they are creating in art class. Be intentional with your communication, ask specific questions like, ”Why did you choose to make your artwork the way you did?”, “What techniques did you use to get your artwork to look like it does?”, “I am interested in understanding where your ideas came from when you were making this work of art.”. You will likely be impressed with what your student has to share with you about their art making experiences.
If you are unable to come to the school to see the artwork on display, you can take a look at your student’s work in Google Classroom. All completed works of art are photographed and added to the project assessment. Here you will be able to view the work your student has created, whether it is on display or not.
Artfully,
Mrs. Broz-England
