From the Director
It's hard to believe that Term 5 is already here! In only five weeks the 2017-18 school year will come to an end. It's important that students maintain their focus in the coming weeks as we prepare for Spring MAP testing and final exams. I know these assessments can be challenging, but there are also many things to be excited about in May.
Coming up next week, for example, we will hold our Term 5 Assembly. Next Friday students studying Chinese will participate in the annual Chinatown field trip. The MS CEMC Math competition is scheduled for May 16th. Later in the month CDS will host a Boys & Girls Basketball jamboree, and the month will wrap up with the MS Athletics Banquet.
Please take a moment to enjoy middle school highlights from earlier this week including the Spanish Speech Contest results, and the 8th grade field trip to the Korean War Memorial Museum. Also, don't miss information and about next year's textbooks and a CDS Art Camp taking place over the summer!
Have a great weekend!

Grade 8 Visits War Memorial of Korea Museum
During the Korean War, the Republic of Turkey contributed troops and resources to the South's cause. To pay his respects to those who sacrificed in the conflict, the president of Turkey, Recep Erdogan was scheduled to make an appearance on Thursday. Students were very excited at the chance to see the Turkish president. However, at the last minute, he declined to show up. Better luck next year!

MS Grade Level Project & Quiz Dates - Term 5
To help with this issue, teachers have begun documenting their major due dates and test dates on a shared spreadsheet for each grade level. When we see that students have too much happening in a given week, we make adjustments to our units to prevent them from feeling too overwhelmed.
Students have had access to this document in the bookmark bars of their Chromebooks. We encouraged students to use it as a tool to manage their time and workload.
To see these grade level documents, please click on the button below.

Spanish Speech Contest
On Wednesday 2nd May we had our MS Spanish Speech contest and it was an absolutely blast! We couldn’t be prouder of all contestants and our MC Adriana Ballesteros for their great work.
You displayed amazing communication, critical thinking and curiosity skills. Presentations were related to the 21 Spanish speaking countries and their touristic opportunities. We bet that after this event everyone wants to plan a trip to those countries as soon as possible! We were also very happy to see our community supporting the event with all the students that attended as audience, thank you!
Congratulations to the award winners!
