Martin O'Malley

The Guy For You!

Early Life

Martin O'Malley was born in Washington, DC but he grew up in Rockville, Maryland. His parents stressed to him the importance of public service. His father, Thomas, served as an Air Force bombardier in World War II. After the war, he attended law school on the G.I. Bill, working his way up to become an Assistant United States Attorney. O’Malley’s mother, Barbara, has worked in Congress for nearly 30 years, where she continues to serve on the staff of the state’s first female United States Senator, Barbara Mikulski.

Immigration

"... It's not what other countries are doing to the U.S. It's what we're doing for ourselves, in recognizing the tremendous power and economic imperative of immigration reform... Our symbol is the Statue of Liberty. It is not a barbed wire fence."

Martin O'Malley supports the comprehensive immigration reform that included a way to earn a citizenship for those in the country without documentation.O'Malley opposed the Obama Administration decision to deport children who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in August 2014 and has been setting up places they can stay. In May of 2011, Martin O'Malley signed a bill that extended in-state tuition breaks to illegal immigrants at the state’s colleges and universities.

Gun Control

Martin O'Malley has been fearless in taking on gun control in Maryland, standing up to even members of his own party to get results. This is not the America we want to be living in," O'Malley wrote. "I'm pissed that we’re actually asking ourselves the horrific question of, what will it take? How many senseless acts of violence in our streets or tragedies in our communities will it take to get our nation to stop caving to special interests like the NRA when people are dying?"

Martin O'Malley believes the mass shootings are a " national crisis", and America should not wait for another violent action to take the necessary approach. Martin O'Malley has been pushing for gun control. If he was elected president, he made it very clear the gun control reforms he would be pushing for, which includes stronger background checks, steps to prevent people from buying weapons on other people's behalf, and a nationwide assault weapons banned.

Abortion

Martin O'Malley believes that abortion should remain legal without government restriction. " I believe, that is an issue that is best left to the individual conscience of women," O'Malley stated. Martin O'Malley is what is known as "pro choice" meaning that he is for legalizing abortion. He wants women to have the right to be in charge of their reproductive rights. Martin plans to make abortion one of his main priority when he becomes president.

Why I Chose Martin O'Malley

When I took my quiz, I fell under left hand liberal. I then proceeded to look for information that tied in with being a democrat. Since there were 3 democratic candidates it was pretty easy to research the presidential candidates. Martin O'Malley supports my ideas and thoughts about abortion, immigration and education.
