Patriot Notes by Dr. Laura Raeder, Principal
At LHS, November was the Month of Caring.
Our Student Council partnered with LifeScape to help support students and families in the Sioux Falls community. Classrooms participated in the “LHS Wish Lists." LifeScape had a list of items that they need, and our classrooms gathered items from the Wish Lists. Classrooms adopted a child and included books and craft items with their care packages. We are proud of how our LHS students support members of the LHS and Sioux Falls community.
LHS continues to work to keep students and staff healthy. Please remind your student of the importance of handwashing and proper mask-wearing. The mask needs to be worn over the nose. We are able to stay in school due to these efforts. Mask wearing also decreases the chance that your student will need to quarantine for 14 days due to being a close contact at LHS. As a reminder, if your student or someone in your home is waiting for the results of a COVID test the student should stay home from school. If a negative result is received, your student can once again attend school.
As you may know, our LHS family also suffered an incredible tragedy in early November and the Month of Caring took on an added meaning to our students and staff. Through these difficult days and the ones ahead, we are grateful for the ways you have supported and cared for us. Thank you.

Challenges Spark Opportunities
By Dr. Jane Stavem, Superintendent
Every day we are faced with the possibility that every word spoken, and every action taken will be scrutinized through a political lens. While it is the right of every American to choose how they align their values, and with whom, it is also imperative that every citizen respects the rights of their neighbors to the same degree they value their own.
While our nation and the media continue to dissect the news of the day and the actions of those in power, your public schools are a place where we will continue to encourage diversity of thought and unity between people above divisiveness.
This year, we chose the theme of #together to characterize those values. As we face the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, we are stronger when we are #together, encouraging one another, serving each other, and caring for students. As we see the needs of our country and community, we are better when we seek to understand all viewpoints and choose to work #together for the common good.
Every day in our Sioux Falls classrooms, teachers are delivering meaningful lessons in the core content areas, in the arts, and in the subjects that teach students how to analyze and express their own ideas and viewpoints. As we teach the mathematical principles of Pythagorean Theory and the difference between a noun and a verb, we are also developing independent thinkers and the leaders of tomorrow. These lessons help students weigh information from many sources and use critical thinking skills to make important decisions throughout their lives.
As I meet with students across the district, I am continually encouraged and uplifted. They believe in the power of listening to others, understanding and building on the ideas of their peers to make things better, and respecting the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion. I believe if we invest well in these leaders of tomorrow, we have a brilliant future ahead for both Sioux Falls and our country.
These are challenging times, and from challenges come opportunities – in politics, in learning, and in life. Each day is a new opportunity in your public schools, and we are grateful for every moment we spend with your child, supporting them as they grow into a unique individual who will bring their gifts and talents to shape the future.

Join a Club at Lincoln High School!
Lincoln High School values relationships. Research shows us that good relationships keep us happier and healthier. One way for students to discover relationships within the school setting is by joining a club or participating in an activity. Our students and staff have put together some exciting opportunities for students to join and actively participate with their peers through club activities. Clubs meet a couple times a month and cover a wide variety of interests. Joining a club is easy. Check out the LHS Counseling Website to discover your options. Also, read the Statesman and listen to the announcements to learn about the clubs and when they are meeting. Go to: https://www.lhscounseling.com/activities.html and scroll to the LHS Club List tab.

Senior Class of 2021 Yearbook Photo Submission Information
If you are not planning to have your school photo used as your senior yearbook picture, then you need to follow these steps to ensure that your choice photo makes it into the upcoming yearbook. (Reminder: yearbooks are not delivered until fall so you will need to pick it up at next August's Patriot Power Day!)
1) Please ensure you did not check that you did not want your photo published in school publications on your registration. If you did, that will need to be changed and called in to the school office before I can put you in the yearbook.
2) Choose a vertical photo (goes up and down not horizontal) that is school appropriate. It should be a file size that is 2MB or larger. Do not do a screenshot of a photo from any social media sites and do not use Snap with a filter and think it will be large enough.
3) ATTACH your photo to an email to me. Please do not insert it as it will be compressed and will not work. Please include the student's name in the subject line of your email. cindy.cummins@k12.sd.us
4) These are due by January 29th but if you have them ready, feel free to start sending them.
5) Yearbook staff will be doing a shoot for seniors who are unable to afford to pay a photographer's fees. It will be a simple shoot at LHS, but will be free. More info and specific dates to come.
Thank you! Don't forget to purchase your yearbook online at yearbookforever.com and search for Lincoln in Sioux Falls. Email again--- cindy.cummins@k12.sd.us

Hello Seniors and Senior Parents
Send one individual picture if you want but one or two fun group pictures are even better so we can get pictures of ALL seniors.
Please email pictures for the Senior Slideshow to: lhs2021seniors@gmail.com.
Please include NAMES of individuals in the pictures(s) as best as you can. Include approximate DATE and EVENT if applicable and known.
Pictures sent earlier in the year are more likely to show up in the slideshow. Photos sent later in the year will also be included but may be underrepresented due to end of the year time crunch.
We are trying to include pictures of ALL the seniors!
Thank you,
The Senior Slideshow Committee
