September Family STEAM Project
Who knew STEM and, specifically, physics could be so much fun? We did! This Popsicle stick catapult design is an AWESOME family project! Exploring physics has never been so exciting for kids because everyone loves to launch stuff into the air. A catapult made of popsicle sticks is the perfect kids’ activity for simple physics.
SUPPLIES:
- Popsicle Sticks (no more than 50). Must be popsicle sticks only
- Rubber Bands (no glue)
- Firing Power (ex: marshmallows, pompoms, pencil top erasers)
- Plastic Spoon (optional)
- Bottle Cap
STEP 1: Make predictions. Which object will fly the farthest? Why do you think one will fly farther than the other?
STEP 2: Create your catapult.
STEP 3: Test and measure how far each item goes when flung from the catapult. Record results.
Step 4: Bring your catapult to school on Friday, September 30th. We will have a launching contest to see which catapult can propel an item. All students who submit an entry will receive 10 warrior tickets and a 1-day free dress pass.
