We will be taking our first Math test on Thursday. I will be sending home a study guide and sample problems to help prepare for the test. Please return the study guide on Thursday. All students have a TenMarks login sheet inside the front cover of their planner. They can log on to TenMarks to practice math concepts that we are working on in our classroom. They will have homework assignments through TenMarks assigned to them soon.
Reading Workshop
I love the excitement all of the students have about reading. Over the last few weeks we have been working on building our stamina and increasing our reading time. They have learned how to pick just right books, as well as, set individual goals for their reading. Please continue to encourage your child to read EVERY night....even if it is only 5 minutes. Record all reading in their reading logs.
Writing Workshop
We are practicing writing Personal Narratives. Students should be focusing on the small details of their stories and making readers see what their story is all about, through the details that they include in the story. Next week we will begin working on grammar skills to improve their writing. We will take separate quizzes over these skills.
Lessons 3-4
We will begin Lesson 3 on Tuesday. Students will take their ABC order test on the first Friday (9/11) and the dictation test on the second Friday (9/18). All Spelling words will cover two weeks.
Scientific Method
We are learning about the Scientific Method. We will begin our class science Fair project in the next couple of weeks. We will be submitting this as our class project to the Science Fair. Your child can also submit a project on their own or as a group. Information came home about this last week.
Rights and Responsibilities
We have begun talking about our rights and responsibilities as citizens of a school, community, country, etc... We are also learning about the different symbols of the US and their importance.
