Which Option Saves You More Money
Ahaash is debating on whether he should get a presto card or use cash to buy transit tickets. Fortunately, today we will figure out which option is more beneficial for Ahaash and as a result will save him more money.
Transit Fare for Student 13-19 Years of Age
Presto Card - $2.50 for each ticket and $6.00 for the card
Cash - $3.50 for each ticket
Equations
Presto Card
C=2.50t+6
Cash
C=3.50t
Where C is the cost and t is the number of tickets
Explanation
As you can see in both of the tables and the graph the cost for 6 tickets is $21.00 using a presto card and cash. The cost for 7 tickets is $23.50 using a presto card and $24.50 using cash. Therefore, I can conclude that if you are going to use the bus less than 6 times, it’s more beneficial to use cash since you would save more money. However, if you are going to use the bus more than 6 times it’s more beneficial to use a presto card since you would save more money. Also, if you think that you are going to use the bus exactly 6 times either option would be ideal as they are both the same price.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you are going to use the bus exactly 6 times either option is ideal, as they are both the same price. If you don't use the bus daily and you are going to use the bus less than 6 times using cash is more beneficial. If you use the bus daily and you are going to use the bus more than 6 times, using a presto card is more beneficial. Thus, I have decided that I will buy a presto card, since I will use the bus daily and definitely more than 6 times.
