Kindergarten Graduation
Kindergarten graduation will take place on one of the last few days of the school year. More specific information will be shared out as the date is finalized in the near future. However, our kindergarten team is in need of parent support which may come in a variety of ways.
How You Can Help...
We are looking for parents of current kindergarten students, former kindergarten students, or community members to help with any of the following items or opportunities. We would like to remind you this is something that is not required nor expected, however we have had many families ask how they can support PVP and our students and we wanted to offer up this opportunity.
- Help set up the gym and classrooms on the day of the graduation
- Donated graduation supplies and decorations
- Food, snacks, cakes, drinks, etc
- Possibly volunteer in the classroom on days leading up to the graduation to help prepare students for the graduation ceremony or work on culminating projects, etc (this is something you would need to check with your child's teacher as some teachers may need this support while others may not)
If you are interested in supporting our kindergarten team in any way, please contact your child's kindergarten teacher or contact Melissa Kennedy who is our Kindergarten team representative via email kennedy.melissa@battlegroundps.org
Cold and Flu Season
Dear Pleasant Valley Families,
I am Nancy Boldt, RN and I am the school nurse for both the Primary and the Middle School. I know I have had contact with many of your families and yet, there are many that I have not had the opportunity to engage with. Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. I am back in the areas with the health room assistants, Ms. Mason at Primary and Mrs. Lavell at the Middle School.
A topic of interest at this time of year is flu. You may have heard recently on the news that the hospitals in our area are quite full with flu related issues. Getting a flu shot for children and yourself is a good step toward decreasing the risk of getting the flu. As always, using our usual precautions are also important. Please remind your children and model for them; coughing into their elbow, washing their hands whenever they have coughed or sneezed into them, after using the bathroom and before eating is the best defense.
Please review the attached brochure that discusses health and school attendance.
Thank you and Happy Handwashing,
Nancy Boldt,RN

Classified Staff Appreciate Week (March 11-15)
Pleasant Valley Primary would like to honor all of our Classified staff and continue a tradition that was started in 1975 by PSE to recognize the contributions of Education Support Professionals in the public school system. We as a school could not function without these amazing individuals. It is evident each and every day how these staff members positively interact with, support, and help grow all of our students with their academic, behavioral, and social emotional skills. In addition to supporting students, our classified personal are a great asset to the classroom teachers as well as the other staff at Pleasant Valley Primary.
Thank you for the energy and dedication you bring each and every day to serve the Pleasant Valley community.
Social Emotional Development
Our classrooms will continue their 2nd step Social Emotional lessons throughout the month of November.
Monthly Focus (March): Friendship Skills and Problem Solving Skills
This month, our schoolwide theme is friendship skills. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we'll be reminding students to invite others to play, play in fair ways, take responsibility for mistakes by making amends, and how to handle name-calling assertively. These skills help students make and keep friends.
PBIS Monthly Assembly
We had our monthly PBIS assembly yesterday which was amazing. Many staff and students put a lot of hard work into this assembly including Mrs. Carolan and her 1st grade students, Mrs. Kennedy and her Kindergarten students, Mrs. Machida, Mrs. Mendez, Mrs Smith (Math Intervention Teacher), and Mrs. Hamstra and her Marimba students as well as all of our specialist teachers. The specialist teachers presented their golden awards to classes they have had in the last month who demonstrated kindness to others. The awards went to...
Mr. Anderson provided his award to... Mrs. Machida's 2nd Grade Class
Mrs. Allinger provided her award to... Mrs. Harding's 1st Grade Class
Mrs. Borges provided her award to... Mrs. Mendez' Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Holterman provided her award to... Mrs. Shelton's 2nd Grade Class
Mrs. Hamstra provided her award to... Mrs. Kennedy's Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Hoffman provided her award to... Mrs. Boll's 1st Grade Class
Please see the picture to the right of the student representatives of the golden award winning classes.
Mrs. Kennedy's and Mrs. Carolan's classes created some videos and presented during the assembly. They focused on problem solving and how to use our school Problem Solving Wheel. Please click on the three images below to play these videos.

Introducing the New PVP Problem Solving Wheel(s)
Throughout the month of February, Mrs. Kessler (school psychologist) and Mrs. Roggenkamp (school counselor) presented our new PVP Problem Solving Wheel to each classroom. This presentation presented our new problem solving wheel to staff and students and provided a mini lesson to instruct students on how to utilize this problem solving wheel.
The PBIS Team has worked hard this year to create the problem solving wheel as a way for all of our students to learn problem solving skills and have a resource to support this skill. The team created a Kindergarten through 2nd Grade version and a 3rd and 4th Grade version while keeping the problem solving wheels consistent so that we now have school wide resource moving forward.
Jump Rope For Heart - School Goal is $13,000
Mrs. Allinger is again leading the Pleasant Valley Primary Jump Rope for Heart awareness and fundraising event. Mrs. Allinger does an amazing job with this event and works hard at building student knowledge and awareness of heart health, heart disease and overall whole body wellness.
Kids heart challenge (formerly known as jump for heart) is coming on March 29! Our students are exercising, learning about heart health and raising life saving donations for the American Heart Association! We are almost at $2000 raised on line! We have a lofty goal of $13000, to beat last year’s $12,800! Please consider a donation, volunteering at the event or providing a healthy snack to share with the school on March 29th! This annual event is one the kids look forward to every year!
Please learn more about this by visiting Pleasant Valley Primary's Jump Rope for Heart website. This website provides additional information as well as allows you to make donations. The fundraising efforts end on March 29th when we will have our school wide assembly.
The class that raises the most donations by March 29th will earn a PE class party! Let's work hard to get in 60 minutes of heart pounding exercise each day while we learn more about heart health!
Woooo Hoooo ...Classrooms Filled Their Beaver Bravo Jar!!!
Every time a student is recognized for displaying positive behaviors that meet one of our school wide expectations, they receive a Beaver Bravo. They then put this Bravo into their classroom jar and with every individual positive behavior that is recognized, classroom jars soon fill up. Once full, the class dumps their jar into our school wide jar located in the main office which results in a spirit day celebration as soon as our school jar is full. What happens as a result of all of these collective positive behaviors? They ALL help shape Pleasant Valley Primary into the amazing community that we all have the privilege of being part of every single day!

Dr. Suess Day/Week (see pictures below)
Many classes at PVP celebrated Dr. Suess Day (March 2nd) by reading Dr. Suess books or having guest readers come in and read their favorite Dr. Suess book to the class. Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on or near March 2—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books.
