Weekly Happenings

We have had another exciting week in 1st grade! This week In reading and language arts, we continued our "King and Queen of the Day" routine in which we focused on getting to know a different child each day. We are excited to highlight each child in our class over the upcoming weeks and present them with a special book written by their classmates.

We've also worked on the -in and -ip families, and practiced the sight words have, is, see, the, in, and it.

In math, we continued to work on number recognition and counting to 120. We focused on being able to count on from any given numeral and its placement on a number line as well.

In social studies, we discussed good citizenship/treating others fairly. We also reviewed how leaders make rules and help us follow them.

In science, we began talking about the plant life cycle. We are excited to start planting our own seeds and watching their growth over the upcoming weeks!

Lunch Buddies Needed!!!!

We're in need of an extra set of hands during first grade lunch. With three class sections this year (rather than our previous four), we'd love a little adult help! If you do volunteer for lunch buddy, we do ask that you help all first grade children, not just your child or your child's section. Thank you!!!

The link to sign up is HERE.

Please remember that ALL guests must sign in at the office and get a visitor's pass when entering the school. At Lakeside, your child's safety is of utmost importance to us!

Don't forget to fill out a background check for anyone that would like to volunteer in any capacity this school year. A new one must be filled out each year to keep current.

HERE is the link.

Thank you for your help in this!

Happy Friday!

Each Friday, your child's class will be calling a mystery child's home phone number to wish that family a "Happy Friday!" We need to know what number you want us to use for that. Please indicate that HERE. Expect a phone call once per semester, as we'll call one child's family per week. If you receive a phone call from the school on a Friday morning between 8:00-8:30, you might want to let a voicemail pick up. Your child will enjoy getting to come home and hear his/her class on the recording! We don't tell the children who got the mystery call, we just wait until the following Monday morning to see who comes in having heard a fun message!
