Attendance is Important
Just a quick note about the importance of attendance and students being in class everyday. I know there are lots of sicknesses going around and we want everyone to be healthy, that is most important. Lots of students have been absent and with our rigorous daily schedule I don't want anyone to fall behind. I would ask that if your child was absent that they come and see me before school on the day of their return to pick up anything they missed or complete any work.
Thank you!
What's Happening in the Classroom??
- Innovation: Students will continue our Engineering is Elementary unit where they will be learning about and creating a model membrane. This week students will be conducting an experiment using raisins to analyze raisin skin.
- Language Arts -Students will continue our unit, Making Decisions. Our Essential Question we will focus on is, What Helps us Solve Problems? In this unit students will read and compare folktales from around the world to analyze how characters solve problems. This week students will be focusing on Identifying and summarizing key events in a story. When students read at home each night have them practice summarizing what they have read using the 5 finger rule- Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then.
- Math -In math, we will begin to wrap up our unit on fractions and start our unit review. Students will continue to compare fractions and order numbers on a number line with different denominators.
- Writing - Students will continue to explore the three types of writing: opinion, informational and narrative. Students will be focusing on narrative writing where they will be writing their own fable.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 3: Put First Things First. Students will be recognized for showing leadership by staying organized and completing their work.
- Genius Hour- Students will continue to work on finalizing their ideas for their project and construct a "pitch" to show the class what they will be focusing on for their genius hour project.
