Falcon Flash
August 19th, 2022
Dear Falcon Friends and Families,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this, the first message of the new school year. I am honored to serve as your principal in my second year helping to ensure each and every child is successful.
I am happy to report that most of our faculty is returning this year and our building is clean and ready to welcome our students for a new school year of learning together. We have added just a few new members to our team. Please join me in welcoming:
Kristen Olson who is returning from a one year leave. She will be teaching second grade.
We gained an additional learning specialist. Her name is Mary Hayes.
Victoria Castro is our new library technology assistant.
We have a few new educational assistants. They include Lynsay Case, Amy Dukek, and Sandy Pendo.
Our new teacher of our ELL students is Lisa Watzke.
As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who comes to Forest Hills - students, families and staff - all feel welcomed and excited to be here! The most common word that describes the Forest Hills learning community is “family”, and for this to continue it’s important to maintain open lines of communication. With that in mind, please do not hesitate to contact any of our teachers. Also, please feel free to stop by, call or email me to discuss any concerns or ideas you might have throughout the school year. Next week you will have the opportunity to meet our staff in person during our Meet & Greet Hour where families are welcome to come and meet our teachers, check out our facility and drop off school supplies. This takes place from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, Thursday, August, 25th. I hope to see you there.
I look forward to working with you as a team to help each student at Forest Hills feel empowered for a lifetime of learning and belonging.
Sincerely,
Jim Mangan, Principal

K-2 Devices (iPads)
K-2 students from last year kept their devices (iPads) over the summer. Computer Network Services (CNS) will remotely erase the K-2 iPads the week before school starts. Your iPad needs to be on WiFi, charged to at least 50%, and any data that is needed should be backed up.
If you need any assistance with technology, you can put in a Technology Work Order Request here: https://losdhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
Set Up Meal Accounts, Applications
The universal free meals waiver with USDA expired on June 30, 2022. That means starting this school year LOSD will be serving meals under the free, reduced, and paid categories.
Please be sure to set up your student's meal account or apply for free/reduced meals. Look for Meals under Find it Fast on district and school website homepages for account setup and application information, and more.
Select Your Bus Stop - New Routes are Ready
Bus routes and access points -- or what many call bus stops -- for the 2022-2023 school are now available on the district and school websites under Find It Fast / Transportation. Please review the new routes and select the stop(s) that works best for your family. Families with students receiving special education transportation services will receive bus information directly from case managers next week.
Students who live further than 1 mile away from their resident elementary school and 1.5 miles away from their resident middle or high school are eligible for transportation services. However, service is typically provided closer to avoid crossing major thoroughfares.
Bus registration is not necessary. Access points -- or what most call bus stops -- will be available by mid-August. Look for an email from LOSD notifying you when access points are posted under Transportation on the district and school websites.
Help prepare your child to ride the bus. Select the access point(s) that work best for your family.
Visit your access point before school starts to familiarize your child with their stop.
Look for visual clues to help identify when it’s their time to get off the bus.
Kindergarteners need an adult to greet them off the bus. Bus drivers are obligated to return unattended kindergarteners to school for safekeeping. Please be sure to be at your child’s stop ahead of time to help keep the bus moving for all onboard.
