Academically Motivating Students at Home
Be involved with your students’ academics—Check planners, homework folders/backpacks, or simply ask them what they are working on. Stay in touch with your child’s teacher as well.
Reward effort rather than results—Your student may not have aced a test or gotten every math question right, but if they did their best and put a great deal of energy into an assignment praise them for it.
Talk to your child about the importance of doing their best—Remind your child that if they pay attention and complete work assigned they will be better prepared for the next assignment or even the next grade level.
Stay positive—Encourage and acknowledge when your child puts effort into their work.
Take breaks when needed—If your child is reaching a level of frustration during homework or independent reading have them take a break. Have them go outside and play, spend some time in their room or take a nap.
Give your student options when possible—Kids may be more motivated in their learning if they feel like they have a choice. If there are several assignments that need to be done, allow your child the option of choosing which task they’d like to complete first.
Halloween PBIS Store
It's baccckkkkkk....the PBIS Halloween Student Store! While supplies last! Desert View is utilizing a Halloween PBIS store for a fun motivator during the month of October. Students can “purchase” items with their Star Bucks. Remember, students earn Star Bucks by being Respectful, Responsible and Safe around campus.
