President's Corner by Cree Sanford
Wow, 2018 is quickly approaching!! Where has the time gone!! Our fifth graders had a fabulous trip to see Sleeping Beauty and her Winter Knight this past Wednesday and this past Tuesday they put on a phenomenal musical performance. We have some incredibly talented students here at Copeland!! Special thank you to LaToi Gillyard, our music chair, and her crew for all of their hard work with program.
At our general PTO meeting on Tuesday night, the general PTO voted and approved our new amended bylaws. This is a big success for our PTO as our bylaws had not been updated since 2003 and are now up to date with the sign of the times! Thank you to all who attended the meeting and exercised your right to vote. I’d also like to report that our fall fundraiser with Great American raised over $10,000, not too bad especially with all the aftermath our city and some of our families faced from Hurricane Harvey!! These funds will go towards updating our school’s literacy library. I sincerely thank each and every one of you for helping to raise these funds for our school!! We could not do any of this without the help of you!! Copeland truly has some awesome parents!!!
Our traditional Christmas parties will be held on Thursday, December 21st during school hours. You should have received information from your homeroom coordinator regarding times and ways that you could help out with the big day. If you plan to purchase your teacher a little something special, please check out the Teacher Favorites tab on our website at www.copelandpto.org. I know the kiddos are looking forward to their winter break so let’s kick it off right with a fabulous party!!
I hope that everyone has a restful and joyous Christmas holiday and I hope that the New Year of 2018 will be a bright beginning for everyone!!

We also always need volunteers and helpers year round. If you do have ability to volunteer on a more regular basis, there are plenty of opportunities. You can learn about SRC (Science Resource Center), which is an excellent resource not only for the students, but for parents too. If you are able to volunteer for this, I promise you will learn something too! Please contact our SRC Chair Selina Sauceda at email@example.com for more info.
The library always needs volunteers, as do art and music. Please let me know if you want more information.
If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Kinder—Classes are having a Polar Express day on December 15th. Kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas to school. They will also have the option to drink hot chocolate. Please let your teacher know if you don’t want them to or if they can’t drink hot chocolate.

The Garden by Tracy Reynolds
The garden survived the snow. The 3rd graders are enjoying seeing the garden grow. December 6,20147 the 3rd graders got to make a salad from the broccoli and kohlrabi they grew in the garden. Many of the kids thought it was the best salad ever! The kids planted carrots seed on December 11. As the holidays quickly approach we are going to need help watering the garden. When seeds are planted they need to be watered every other day. We need one or two parents from every class to help. Email me at email@example.com if you can assist with watering the garden. Parents from all grade levels are welcomed. Thank you Sarah Nelson and Howard LaFleur.
