Middle School Weekly Update
3.26.2023
Knights of the Week!
This feature of our newsletter highlights students who have been nominated by their teachers as upholding the school's core values of Integrity, Responsibility, and Service.
Congratulations to our Middle School Knights of the Week!
Addison - 6th
Addison helped out a friend who had a badly hurt ankle. She showed extreme empathy and concern, remained calm and assuring, and offered to help by retrieving her things from her locker. This exemplifies a genuine act of kindness and service to a peer.
Addison - 8th
Addison comes to school each day with a positive attitude. She is responsible and cares about her school work and learning. She helps create a calm and supportive learning environment. She exemplifies Gray Stone's core values each day.
Daily Schedule 2023-2024
The schedule for the 2023-2024 school year is posted below and will be posted on our website soon.
If you have questions regarding the daily schedule, please feel free to ask them HERE and I will post a FAQ in an upcoming newsletter.
Dress Code Reminder
As warmer weather arrives, we are noticing some clothes that are in violation of our dress code policy. Shorts should be seen, meaning shirts/sweatshirts should not be longer than shorts. Also, crop tops exposing cleavage or the belly button area should not be worn to school.
Below is a reminder from our GS Student handbook about Dress Code:
Students should attend school in appropriate and respectable attire and shoes. Please
use your good judgment and consider whether your clothing choices meet the
standards and values set by your own families. If your fashion choices disrupt the
learning environment, we reserve the right to ask you to alter them accordingly.
Teachers and administrators will encourage students to consider their fashion choices
with reminders and consequences that develop good habits of self-discipline, respect
for school norms, and respect for self. We expect students to respond affirmatively and
constructively when a staff member asks the student to remove a hat while in class or
identifies an item of clothing that detracts from the learning environment. Parents, we
appreciate your support at home as students make choices about what to wear to
school.
Examples of inappropriate dress include, but are not limited to:
- Clothing that displays or suggests sex, alcohol, drugs, or violent acts
- Clothing that has offensive logos, labels, or phrases
- Clothing that does not fully cover undergarments
- Clothing that exposes private areas, cleavage, and belly buttons
- Shorts and skirts (including pants with holes) that are not at an appropriate length suitable for an academic environment.
- Hats and hoods should not be worn inside during the academic school day.

Mobile Phone Policy
There has been a noticeable increase in the use of mobile phones during the school day. Restrooms and Locker Rooms are STRICT no phone zones. Please take a moment to read the mobile phone policy below:
Students in the middle school are not permitted to use mobile phones during the instructional day unless given direct permission to do so by a teacher or staff member. This means mobile phones should remain in lockers or in backpacks and TURNED OFF or set on SILENT so no notifications or sounds disturb instruction. Yes, this also includes lunch time. We want students to learn how to talk to each other face to face and build friendships during these social times as opposed to having their focus on a screen.
If a student needs to call home, they need to notify a teacher and can use the office phone to make the call. In efforts to protect instructional time, if you need to reach your child, you can call the front office 704.463.0567 to leave a message for them or to notify us that you need to speak to your child.
If students have a phone out at any time during the instructional day without permission they will be given a warning and asked to put away the phone. If it becomes a repeated offense, the device will be taken and held in the the front office for the day. In some situations, a parent/guardian will be notified and asked to come to the office to retrieve the phone.
