Bristow Run ES Panther Press

March 2022

Dear Panther Families,

Spring is in the air! Our students and staff are beginning to feel and see signs of Spring and we are excited! March is a great time to refocus on school priorities and stay focused on learning so we can do our best as we prepare for spring SOL testing. Over the next few weeks, we will be having grade-level meetings to review expectations for always doing our best! We will review the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship and encourage our students to continuously demonstrate these characteristics. Be on the lookout for your child to bring home a Panther PRIDE certificate to show how they demonstrated one of the character traits.

In May our students will take the state Standards of Learning assessments. Teachers are working diligently with their students to teach the curriculum and review with students prior to testing. You can help your child by making sure they attend school each day and that they come on time and stay all day. When students are absent or tardy, they miss direct instruction and it does have an impact on your child’s learning. If your child is participating in Cub Club tutoring, make sure they attend all sessions. The school will provide snacks and water since we know students learn best when they’re not hungry.

Please take time to read our newsletter and mark important dates on your calendar. PTO is hosting Pastries with Parents on March 12 and our school kicks off Boosterthon this month. Boosterthon is our most profitable fundraiser and we hope to use the funds to help improve recess equipment and to donate to our learning garden project. We have a BIG goal of earning $15,000!

Thank you for your continued support! We value and appreciate our parent partnerships; together we make our school community better!

Kindergarten Registration: Opens March 21, 2022

Kindergarten online registration for the 2022-23 school year will open on Monday, March 21, 2022, and is followed up with an in-person registration appointment.

Parents whose students are currently enrolled in any PWCS preschool program (preschool or special education) do not need to complete the online kindergarten registration process. Instead, they should contact the registrar for the school where their student will attend for kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year.

If you have any questions about kindergarten registration, don't hesitate to get in touch with Bristow Run's registrar, Susie Pierce. PierceSC@pwcs.edu

Updates from Nurse A

Since February 22, 2022, PWCS has no longer been tracking quarantine data. If COVID-19 cases impact 10% or more of our school or building population, PWCS would implement contact tracing and quarantine if recommended by local health officials. PWCS will no longer quarantine students or staff if schools are below this 10% threshold.

Should your child become ill and test positive for COVID-19, he/she would be required to isolate at home for 10 days and return to school on day 11. As mentioned above, there is no longer a need to quarantine siblings or classmates.

When your child has been absent due to illness and is ready to return to school, COVID-19 testing and/or MD clearance notes are no longer required. If your child has had a fever, they must be fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication prior to their return. Please see below to review the current guidelines for illness and injury exclusions:

PTO: Boosterthon

On March 16th, we’ll kick off our Bristow Run Panther Fun Run program! We are super excited to bring back the fun run and cannot wait to get our parent volunteers out on the field while the students complete their laps. Our goal is to raise funds for important school improvements and to strengthen our school community. This year more than ever, we need additional funds to provide an excellent educational experience for all of our students. We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now. You can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at mybooster.com. Sharing IS supporting! All students will participate in the Bristow Run Panther Fun Run, regardless of financial participation. We will also be following our school safety guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone. We appreciate your support more than you know.

Key dates to remember:
- Registration and donating opens March 2nd

- Register on MYBOOSTER.COM
- Fundraiser Kickoff March 16th
- Event Day March 24

We are grateful for our Panther family! Thank you for your support this year!
