Blanche Dodd Bobcat News
April 2018
Message from our Principal
Greetings Bobcat Families!
Next week our students will be taking the first part of the State of Texas Assessments for Academic Readiness or STAAR tests. On Tuesday, April 10th, 4th grade students will take the STAAR Writing test and 5th grade students will take STAAR math. On Wednesday, April 11th, 5th grade students will take STAAR reading. Make up tests will be given on Thursday, April 12th and Friday, April 13th.
The STAAR test measures the state standards that teachers have taught this year. While this test is one measure of student progress, we recognize that it does not define a student and his/her overall success for the year. We do expect to see consistent and continuous growth in learning from year to year.
I know you all want your children to do their very best, so you can help them prepare for their testing days in the following ways:
- Make sure your child gets a good nights rest before testing days.
- Have your child eat a balanced breakfast at home or in the school cafeteria.
- Make sure your child arrives at school on time (by 7:55 a.m.).
- Encourage your child to do their very best. You might even want to drop a note in their lunch box or backpack on testing days.
Please make note that to ensure a secure testing environment, the campus will be closed to visitors on testing days (including lunch visitors).
If you have questions or concerns about state testing, please feel free to contact me or our counselor, Tracy Reynolds.
Wishing you an Awesome April!

Attendance Policy
Arriving late or leaving early is considered a part of the day:
4 or more tardies or picking your child up before dismissal time will exempt a student from perfect attendance awards/rewards and time may be required to be made up during summer school.
Doctor and Dental Appointments:
Absences for appointments with doctors, dentists, orthodontists, physical therapists, and other health care professionals will be classified as excused absences if the student returns to school on the same day as the appointment and presents a note from the health care provider stating the time of the appointment and the time the student left the doctor's office. If the appointment is at the end of the school day and the student has been at school all day up to that time, the absence will be excused if the student brings a note from the health care provider the following day.
Watch DOGS are the Best!
Please use the link below to sign-up for a day(s) to volunteer as a Watch DOG at Blanche Dodd Intermediate. Don't forget to do your background check for this school year as well. You can fill one out on-line from the Krum ISD website. This background check will need to be processed before we can set you up a schedule to volunteer. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Anyon Coon (Watch DOGs coordinator) at anyon.coon@krumisd.net.
We look forward to having you as a Watch DOG on our campus!
