National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony - June 2, 2022
The 8th Grade National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be held on June 2, 2022, at 9:30 am in the media center. Selection as an honoree is based upon careful consideration of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship by our chapter's faculty council.
In order to qualify, students must have both a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and a good discipline record. The grade point average will be calculated from Quarter 1, Quarter 2, and Quarter 3 grades. Invitations will be given to students on Monday, May 16, 2022, and a copy will be emailed to parents on the same date.
Students Leading The Way to Improving School Culture
Last month, 12 of our 6-8 grade Tigers were trained by Jennifer Morillo, a FranklinCovey Leader in Me Coach & Consultant, on Habit 5: Seeking First to Understand Before Being Understood. They learned that when entering a difficult conversation, a first priority is to understand the other person’s perspective, even if you don’t agree with it. Real attention to understanding is likely to yield new information that can help you resolve the problem.
These 12 leaders will be called upon to organize three school-wide conflict resolution student conversations that will provide us with conflict resolution tools that we all can begin to use over the summer.
The sessions will focus on the topics as follows:
- Avoiding conflict
- Responding to conflict
- Strategies to deal with conflict
Each discussion session/lesson will be guided by a teacher and/or guidance counselors and will last a minimum of 20 minutes.
The student training, lessons, and discussions will become a part of our school's culture during the 2022 - 2023 school year as we seek additional students to serve as monthly student culture leaders.
