Dear Tashua Families,

Our Tashua Silent Auction begins today! You should have received an email and packet this week regarding the Tashua Silent Auction, with a listing of all the available items. Thank you to all who have donated and have helped to make this auction a success. Bidding starts today at 12pm and ends on Saturday, May 1st at 8:30pm. Please visit www.32auctions.com/Tashua2021 to view all donations & to get a head start in setting up your account. SPREAD THE WORD TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS!! This auction is not exclusive to just Tashua families & staff. All proceeds will go towards the Tashua PTA. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Lisa Stein at lisastein14@gmail.com.

On Monday, we are excited to be kicking off our One Book, One School event! The youngest child of your family will be coming home with a parent letter, hard copy of the book, and a reading calendar that afternoon. If your child is a TRL, you can pick up the materials that day. As a family you can enjoy this book by reading together nightly or having your family members enjoy listening to the pre-recorded readings of each chapter that have been read by staff members. These readings will be posted on our website.

Further, as a reminder, next week we will begin to administer the Smarter Balanced Assessments to students in grades 3-5. The SBAC Assessments will expose students to Common Core English/ Language Arts questions and Mathematics problems. In addition to the SBAC assessments, our students in grade 5 will be taking the NGSS Science Field Test.

SBAC Testing Schedule

Grades 3 - 5

English Language Arts

Tuesday 5/4 & Wednesday 5/5

Mathematics

Tuesday 5/11 & Wednesday 5/12

Mathematics Performance Task

Thursday 5/13

Science Testing - Grades 5

NGSS - Science Field Test

Tuesday 5/18 & Wednesday 5/19

We hope students will not be absent during the testing period, except for illness, and that they will strive to do their very best! These SBAC assessments are administered to measure the academic growth of individual students from year to year and results are used to develop targeted instructional plans for students.

Here are some ways you can help us from home:

  • Be sure your child arrives to school on time. If he or she is late, your child will not be able to enter the classroom until testing is done for the day. A make-up test will be given at another time by one of the specialists so your child will miss classroom instruction.
  • Provide your child with a nutritious breakfast each day. Even toast and a piece of fruit will provide the body and brain energy.
  • Help your child to be prepared for school each day with a fully charged Chromebook and functioning earphones.
  • Set a healthy routine to ensure your child gets plenty of sleep. Most children need at least 10 hours of sleep each night. Children cannot do their best work when they are tired.
  • Let your child know that you expect him or her to try their very best! We do use this data as one lens to plan for individual instruction for the upcoming school year. Therefore, your child will benefit greatly when the data is a true reflection of a his or her ability.

Some children can become so worried about taking a test that they struggle to demonstrate what they do know. Simply telling your child "not to worry" will not be effective. Instead, share these tips:

  • Help your child to remember past tests where he or she had done well and remind your child that he or she can do well again!
  • Reassure your child. Let your child know that all you expect is his or her best effort.

If you would like to learn more about the Smarter Balanced assessments, you can log onto: www.smarterbalanced.org.

Finally, please be sure to fill out the TPS volunteer form by Friday, May 7 if you have any interest in offering to volunteer for these events. Your completed form must be processed ASAP with time to receive a confirmation from DCF which can take up to four weeks. All forms must be original with an original signature. No emailed or faxed forms will be accepted. If forms are filled out incorrectly or missing information, they will be returned.

In order to avoid delays, please be sure to:

· Fill out both sides of the form

· Complete all sections

· If there is no information to provide, please write “N/A” (do not leave blank)

· Have other adults in the home include their signatures where applicable

· Send completed forms to the Tashua School Office

Lastly, if you are dropping your child off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon, please refrain from turning around in the personal driveways of our neighbors. We had a report today of a dangerous situation. When dropping off and picking up, you should NOT be using Stonehouse road to access Dayton Road. In order to ensure the safety of ALL, parents need to arrive at our drop-off/pick-up circle on Dayton road by traveling on Ashbury Road, Old Village Road or Lake Avenue. Further, please be continue to be considerate of others. Individuals who are arriving later than those who are already and line, should not be bypassing the line and turning directly into the bus lane in the front of the building.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, suggestions or good news to share.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Neumeyer

Principal
